Quad area COVID-19 update Tuesday: 4 new cases Douglas, 2 in Carson City and 1 in Storey

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting Tuesday, June 23, that there are seven new positive cases and no additional recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 296, with 209 recoveries and seven deaths, 80 cases remain active.

Carson City Fire Department knock down fast moving brush fire off Mark Way

UPDATE 5:50PM: Carson City Fire Department Chief Sean Slamon reports the brush fire, now under control, was approximately 1 acre in size and two homes were immediately threatened when firefighters arrived.

"The fire was challenging from down drafts and erratic high winds. Crews were able to protect the structures and stop the forward progress very quickly," said Slamon.

Firefighters will remain on scene for another 1 to 2 hours. The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE: Forward progress on the Mark fire was stopped at 5:36 p.m., according to a Carson City Fire Department battalion chief on scene. Mop up efforts are underway. It is unknown at this time if any structures have been damaged. We will update as information becomes available.

Carson City Fire Department is responding early Tuesday evening to a brush fire in the 1000 block of Mark Way. Smoke is visible and Carson City dispatch is receiving multiple 911 calls.

Carson City Fire Department implements fire restrictions beginning Friday

Beginning Friday, June 26, the Carson City Fire Department will implement fire restrictions on City and privately-owned lands within Carson City. Vegetation in western Nevada has dried out significantly. A large crop of dry grass and brush is evident at lower elevations, and trees and other forest vegetation at higher elevations are quickly drying out.
