USDA offers June 12 workshop for small business, ag producers applying for energy grants
Submitted by editor on Mon, 06/02/2014 - 6:19pmUSDA Rural Development will hold a workshop June 12 to help rural small businesses and agricultural producers apply for the federal Rural Energy for America Program funds.
The workshop will be conducted via video teleconference from 9-11:30 a.m. at Cooperative Extension offices in Carson City, Ely, Eureka, Yerington, Caliente and at the Logandale Office. USDA Rural Energy Coordinator Mark Williams will lead the training from the Carson City location to help applicants understanding the REAP application process.

Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 06/02/2014 - 6:00pmA 23-year-old Carson City man faces felony burglary and drug charges after allegedly walking out of Kohl's department store Sunday with merchandise, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy said.
Jac Michael Owen was arrested after store security observed him take a t-shirt and two pairs of shorts into the fitting room and then exiting with them concealed. The security guard stated the man then left the store without attempting to pay for the items, leaving in a 2002 Chrysler Prowler.
Ron Knecht for State Controller in Nevada primary

Ron is running for the Office of State Controller. The Controller has a detailed and serious position: to ensure that the state’s funds are spent as intended and to audit the auditors.
I’ve known Ron for a number of years, and I’ve never seen anyone challenge his integrity or his character. Ron has been endorsed by the Nevada Republican Party, the Republican Assembly, the NRA and others.
Ron is against common core and stands for the tax payer. He is as conservative a man as I know.
Push America Cyclists to Visit Western Nevada College
Submitted by BikeCarson.com on Mon, 06/02/2014 - 4:41pmWestern Nevada College and the Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities will host a ‘Journey of Hope’ Celebration Friday, June 6, for 35 bicyclists traveling from San Francisco to Washington, D.C. to support those with disabilities. This is a community event free and open to the public from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carson City campus. Food, speakers, music, dancing, karaoke and a free raffle will entertain, and flu/T-dap shots and disability resource information tables will inform visitors.
WNC hosts social gathering Friday for Journey of Hope cyclists

Western Nevada College and the Nevada Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities will host a Journey of Hope Celebration on Friday in Carson City for 35 cyclists who are riding from San Francisco to Washington, D.C., to support those with disabilities.
Friday’s free social gathering, which promotes disability awareness and community education, is open to the public and runs from 5 to 8 p.m. in front of the Dini Student Center at WNC.
White-fronted goose picked for 2015 Nevada duck stamp art contest

The Nevada Waterfowl Association has selected the greater white-fronted goose for this year’s Nevada Duck Stamp Art Contest. The 2015 Nevada Duck Stamp Art Contest is sanctioned by the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners, with the winning artwork to be featured on the 2015-2016 state stamp.
Vehicles vandalized over weekend in Johnson Lane area

Eight residents woke Sunday to find someone had poured paint on vehicles in the area of Clapham and Stephanie Way. The suspects also placed nails under tires and broke the glass jars that contained the paint, said Douglas County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Pat Brooks.

Make time to visit The Greenhouse Project and a few things come clear: Agriculture is, after nearly 15 years defunct, alive and well on Carson High School’s campus, and the student population whose class time is integrated here, are developing life skills that will serve them in future, while currently realizing they have a hand in making a difference in their community.
Carson City man jailed on felony domestic battery charge; allegedly punched and choked wife

A 57-year-old Carson City man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of felony domestic battery after allegedly beating and choking his wife until she passed out, a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy said. Gerald Richard Perschke was booked into Carson City Jail on $20,000 bail.
WNC summer term begins June 9

Many college students seek to enroll in summer classes to stay on track for graduation, or learn a new skill. At Western Nevada College students can choose from a variety of classes in the upcoming eight-week summer term. Classes begin June 9 and continue through August 2, unless otherwise noted.
More than 40 courses are scheduled for the summer, including writing, communications, art, music, theater, accounting math, and more. Over a dozen online classes are also available, providing students the flexibility of earning college credit while enjoying their summer activities.
