Youth Theatre Carson City holds 'Cinderella' auditions Feb. 9

Zephyrus Brass Quintet to play Saturday at Carson Mall
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 01/23/2013 - 11:20amZephyrus Brass Quintet, an affiliate of the Carson City Symphony, will play for the first annual Blood Drive for Life on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Carson Mall, 1227 S. Carson Street. Admission is free.
The blood drive, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., is sponsored by Northern Nevada Youth Football League and United Blood Services. Two semi-pro teams, the Reno Reapers women's team and the Nevada Dream team, will be at the event.

Car reported stolen in Carson City recovered, two arrested in Reno
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 01/23/2013 - 10:55amTwo people were arrested in Reno early Wednesday morning and face multiple felony charges after being found driving a car stolen from Carson City, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.
Arrested were Samuel Phompadith, 31, and Jennifer Violet Peters, 30. Both are from Reno. The 1993 Honda Civic they had been driving had been originally reported stolen by the owner earlier this month to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

Douglas authorities seek help in identifying man who attempted break-in at Walmart
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 01/22/2013 - 6:43pmThe Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in identifying the man shown in the photo above and photos attached below, considered a person of interest in an attempted burglary early Tuesday morning at the Walmart Tire and Lube Center on Topsy Lane, in north Douglas County.
The incident occurred at 2:25 a.m., when the man tried to forcibly enter an exterior rear door at the shop, said Douglas County Sgt. Pat Brooks.
Power outage affects 800 homes from Mica Drive to Johnson Lane
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 01/22/2013 - 5:58pmUPDATE 5:12PM: NV Energy reports that 800 homes south of Carson City remain without power late this afternoon after an outage that affected an area from Mica Drive to the south side of Johnson Lane. Initially the outage, which happened at around 1:30 this afternoon, affected 2,000 customers but 1,200 were quickly restored through a series of switching mechanisms, said NV Energy spokeswoman Faye Andersen.
The power circuits are underground and the system is being corrected by sections, she said.
