Harvest Book Sale

September 21, 2012 (All day) The Friends of the Carson City Library will have their Harvest Book Sale at the Library Thursday, Sept. 21 from 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday, Sept. 22 from 10 am to 4pm. All books for sale are newly donated. We have a large assortment of fiction and nonfiction, adult and children's books, hardcovers and paperbacks. There will be a preview sale for members of the Friends on Thursday, Sept. 20 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. Nonmmembers can join at the door. All proceeds benefit the Carson City Library. State Officials Looking For New Sources Of Funding For Construction Projects As Property Tax Revenues Falter
Submitted by Nevada News Bureau on Wed, 08/29/2012 - 11:49amCARSON CITY – A state panel was told today that for yet another two-year state budget, there will be virtually no money available from property tax revenues for capital construction projects.
The state Public Works Board heard the disappointing news today as it began a two-day review of projects being sought by state agencies ranging from the Department of Corrections to Tourism and Cultural Affairs.
Western Nevada College welcomes new faculty and staff

Dr. Robert Whitcomb is the most recent, arriving in time to teach business courses this fall. He hails from Haines, Alaska, where he retired as director of Human Resources and Organizational Development for the Chilkoot Indian Association, a Native Sovereign Nation there.
New Partnerships with Carson Medical Group and Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center Announced

Carson City, Nevada - August 29, 2012 - Northern Nevada families now have even more access to specialized care for pediatric diseases such as cancer and blood disorders. As of September 1, 2012 patients will have the option to access these services in Carson City through an agreement with Carson Medical Group and Cure 4 The Kids Foundation.

Aug. 20: Desert Creek in Lyon County: 1,000 rainbow trout: 10.1 inches.
Aug. 22: Truckee River in Washoe County: 4,318 rainbows: 9.9 inches.
Aug. 22: Marilyn’s Pond in Washoe County: 505 rainbows: 10.7 inches.

Alpine County's Heenan Lake opens Friday for fishing

This is a reminder that a special trout fishing season will open on the Friday before Labor Day.
August 31, 2012 is the Opening Day of the Lahontan Cutthroat Trout fishing season at Heenan Lake in nearby Alpine County, Calif.
Each year, that season opens the Friday before Labor Day and closes the last Sunday in October (October 28 this year). If you’re interested and if you would like to enjoy a totally different fishing experience, plan to spend August 31 at that easy-to-get-to location.
