Makerspace coming to Carson City Library

The Makerpsace will provide a location in Carson City for makers (people who make things) of all levels to participate in hands on innovation, learning, and creating.
Pesticide Safety Education Workshop offered statewide November 13
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 10/23/2017 - 2:04pmCarson City, Nev. – University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, in partnership with the Nevada Department of Agriculture, is offering a workshop Nov. 13 to train people throughout the state how to properly use pesticides. The workshop is meant for certified applicators and those wanting to become certified, including people who regularly handle pesticides as part of their jobs, such as farmers, ranchers, park employees and groundskeepers. Attendees will receive continuing education units.

The public is invited to the catered opening reception on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m.
4-H Invites Carson City Youth to Get Growin’

This project club will be focused on youth gardening with workshops on best garden tools for kids, what materials make the best beds, raised beds or not, seeds and how to start them, what grows in the Great Basin, how to plant a garden, the 3 sisters – a Native American way to plant, selecting a site, container gardens, micro climates in the garden, designing a garden and so much more.

A lot of towns have local celebrities; most everyone has seen Glen Lucky on the side of the road, pushing his bike to take him further. Today, the Nevada State Museum invites everyone to help Lucky celebrate his 65th birthday, complete with cake and a huge group photo.

The annual Genoa Candy Dance is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, and this weekend welcomes the first ever Silver State Arts Festival at Fuji Park, as well. The first ever Community Garage Sale at the Community Center offers one-stop bargain hunting. Swing into the season at the monthly dance party hosted by the High Sierra Swing Dance Club.

Nevada Groups Bring Science, Engineering, Arts and More to Silver City Summer Program

Each year since 2003, Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey (HCC) has co-sponsored some of the free, public programming in STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math - that the historic Comstock community offers annually in partnership with nearly a dozen groups and lots of community volunteers.

The show opens with a reception to meet the artist Friday, July 7 (1–6 pm) and Saturday, July 8, (9 am - 6 pm). The show will hang through the end of July and be open to the public during business hours. This also affords an opportunity to see the beautifully restored Rinckel Mansion, one of Carson City's grand historic buildings.

The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, a 178 mile relay, passes through Carson City on its way to Virginia City. A huge congratulations goes out to the Class of 2017; the Carson High graduates will get their diplomas today. It’s wine walk weekend, so downtown will be hopping with sippers, strollers, and plenty of summer fun. Keep reading, and you’re sure to find something to make this weekend special.

He'll offer another of his extraordinary readings at the Silver City School House at 385 High Street on Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 1pm. James Hoggard, the former poet laureate of Texas, writes,“Lee’s poems will make you laugh till your tears make it impossible to see the page.”
Named one of the 12 greatest writers to ever emerge from the state by Utah Endowment for the Humanities, David Lee was Utah’s first and longest serving poet laureate.
