Central Lyon County investigates Silver Springs fire involving structures, vehicles

UPDATE TUESDAY: Fire Chief Rich Harvey from Central Lyon Fire tells News 4-Fox 11 that six to ten out buildings, about a dozen cars and two homes were destroyed by the fire. The cause is under investigation.

UPDATE 5:09PM: A Lyon County battalion chief said Red Cross will be notified that occupants from three separate residences have been displaced in what he described as "a significant event."

UPDATE 4:59PM: Central Lyon County Fire reports forward progress of the fire was stopped at 4:55 p.m. The cause is under investigation. It is unknown at this time how many structures, vehicles and other property have burned.

UPDATE 4:45PM: Lyon County has opened a shelter at the Silver Springs Community, Senior Center at 2945 Fort Churchill Road in Silver Springs.

UPDATE 4:32PM: Central Lyon Fire and other agencies are fighting the wildland urban interface fire in Silver Springs. Resources from Yerington, Storey County, Lyon County Road Department and Carson City are responding. EMS is establishing a triage area, said Lyon County Manager Jeff Page. All people are advised to stay out of the area.

Central Lyon County Fire Protection District responded Monday afternoon to a fire in the area of Truckee Drive, Esmeralda and Pueblo streets in Silver Springs that in which structures were fully involved in fire.

Go Fund Me account established for 911 dispatcher who lost home in Dayton fire

A 911 dispatcher and her husband lost their home Monday in a Dayton structure fire. A Go Fund Me account has been established to help the couple as they work through their loss.

Central Lyon called to structure fire in Dayton; Carson City and East Fork called for backup

UPDATE TUESDAY FROM CENTRAL LYON FIRE: Shortly after 1 p.m. Monday, July 8, Central Lyon Fire responded to a reported structure fire in the area of Hidden Oak Drive in the Mark Twain District. Upon arrival, Central Lyon Fire crews reported heavy smoke coming from the attic space of a residence.

University of Nevada dormitory explosion rocks Virginia Street

UPDATE 5:00 p.m.: Officials are now calling it a “mechanical failure.” Crews continue to search the wreckage for anyone who may be trapped. All streets within a half mile of the campus are closed. Major damage is being reported at Argenta Hall; however, they believe the building was mostly unoccupied at the time of the explosion.

UPDATE 4:00 p.m.: So far, reports of 8 people were injured and two have been transferred to the hospital. All classes for the rest of the day have been cancelled.

Second Saturday Easy Hike, Davis Creek park, near Bower's Mansion. Please join Muscle Powered as we hike the Discovery Trail at Davis Creek Regional Park located off of old highway 395 near Bowers Mansion. 25 Davis Creek Road, Washoe Valley, NV. On this hike, we will explore the transition zone between the high desert and the Sierra Nevada Mountains. See first hand the changes in the ecology that surrounds us as we move between the Great Basin and the Sierras. Restrooms are available.

Hike distance will be approximately 2 miles, depending on trail condition.

Two-acre fire sweeps through 5 Silver Springs properties, 3 treated for smoke inhalation

UPDATE TUESDAY: Central Lyon County Fire responded Monday night to a structure fire at the Five Star Mobile Home Park in the 1300 block of 5th Street in Silver Springs. According to witnesses, the fire burned at least one mobile home. No injuries have been reported. The fire was knocked down at around 9:30 p.m. We will update as more information becomes available.

Central Lyon Fire Protection District responded Sunday to an interface fire in Silver Springs where the fire spread to approximately 2 acres over 5 properties. The fire consumed two outbuildings, 1 structure and multiple vehicles.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area to help the next three days breeze by. There's a morning Muscle Powered walk, plus the Nevada State Museum will host 2 behind the scenes tours in natural history and anthropology. Plus, the fourth annual Carson City Off-Road kicks off its three-day event with a Capital 15 Fun Ride and Free Clunker Crit Ride. Heading into the evening, “Newsies” will take stage at the Carson City Community Center and you can sit under the stars and watch “The Little Rascals” at 8 p.m. during movie night at John Mankins Park.

Carson City firefighters knock down 3-acre brush fire in Anderson ranch area

UPDATE 2:53PM FROM CARSON CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT: At approximately 12:41 p.m. crews were dispatched to a brush fire in the area of Longview Way, Manhattan Dr., and Spencer St. About 25 firefighters arrived on scene. Upon arrival, firefighters observed large amounts of smoke near residential structures and quickly gained access to the brush fire adjacent to the structures. See the video here.

The fire was declared under control at approximately 1:10 p.m. Crews will remain on scene until released.

Six Mile Canyon Road reopens following Sunday's 12 acre brush fire

The Six Mile Canyon Fire in Storey County that started Sunday evening was 100 percent contained as of 11 p.m. Sunday night and the road is now open, officials said.

Second in 2 days: Carson City Fire Department called to brush fire near landfill

UPDATE 10:51AM: Smoldering material from Friday's fire at the landfill caused it to reignite and burn around a 20 foot by 20 foot swath before being knocked down, according to Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. The cause of Friday's fire remains under investigation. The area is being monitored by public works.

Carson City Fire Department responded early Sunday morning to the area of the Carson City landfill off of Flint Road near the rifle range for a brush fire.
