Regent Sam Lieberman, longtime champion of higher education, has died

Regent Sam Lieberman passed away Friday morning, according to Nevada System of Higher Education officials. He was 58.

No other information was immediately available.

“We were devastated to learn of Sam’s death,” NSHE Chancellor Thom Reilly said in a statement. “He was so passionate about Nevada’s public higher education system and he cared very deeply about bettering our system for our students.”

Lieberman took office as a Board of Regents member, representing District 5 in Clark County, in 2015. Last month, he had filed for re-election.

Dayton man jailed for suspected child pornography charges, video surfaces on social media

On March 15, 2020, the Carson City Sheriff’s Office was notified of a child pornography video posted to a social media account.

Deputies responded and contacted the reporting party. CCSO detectives were requested and launched an investigation. The subsequent investigation determined that a Snapchat user posted a sexually graphic video to his account and the video was made public for the suspect’s followers to view.

Carson Now celebrates 10th anniversary

Today marks the 10th anniversary of Carson Now.

Carson City's most popular local news source officially began operating as a business on March 3, 2010. Since then, it has grown to reach up to 200,000 unique users a month. Our goal, then and now, was to be the one place readers could go to find news about Carson City.

Carson Now will celebrate this milestone with a party tonight from 5-7 p.m. at Living the Good Life, 1480 North Carson Street. The party is open to the public, and there will be champagne and appetizers.
