Hello Carson City and welcome to Sunday, June 23, 2019. Temperatures will warm back up again and stay that way until midweek when another cool weather pattern is expected to arrive. Heading into today, there's the 2019 Great Race at Lampe Park in Gardnerville, an open house at the Foreman-Roberts House Museum in Carson City and the Brewery Arts Center will be packed once again Sunday for the Summer Showcase Band Concert from 5 to 7 p.m.

Happy Saturday, Carson City! There are a ton of events going on in our beautiful capital city today as we officially head into summer following yesterday's solstice. On the docket today we have the first of the Levitt-AMP Concert Series at the Brewery Arts Center, a charity poker run, a street food fest, and more! Check below to see whats happening this weekend.

Heading into the weekend, there's a bevy of events around the Carson City region that brings a cool breeze to the first three days of summer. The 16th Motor Officer Challenge kicks off Friday at 7 a.m. at Mills Park. Lace up the shoes for a Friday morning walk at East Silver Saddle Ranch hosted by Muscle Powered.

The Capital City Community Band and the Mile High Jazz Band Association, in cooperation with Carson Middle School, will present a free Summer Showcase Band Concert on Sunday, June 23, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center’s outdoor stage at Minnesota and King streets in Carson City, the same stage used for the Levitt Amp concerts. Some seating is available, and the public is invited to bring chairs.

Hello Carson City, is it getting warm enough yet? That's the question as we head into a forecast high Tuesday in the low 90s, give or take a few degrees. Don't sweat as our good friends at Muscle Powered have morning and evening walks and a bicycle ride happening before and after the heat sets in. Plus there's local talks about history, addiction and wellness; a yoga class for those with arthritis, a family viewing of the classic basketball fantasy movie "Space Jam" at the Carson City Library and a whole lot more. The Jazz and Beyond festival committee announces that the winner of the 2019 poster and program cover art contest is Reta Hanks, a member of the Nevada Artists Association, Capital City Arts Initiative and several other artists organizations in Nevada and California.

One of the great things about our high desert climate is is how quickly conditions can change. Enjoy the sunny skies while you can as a quick-moving weather system will blow in this afternoon into the evening bringing a chance for gusty winds and scattered rain and light snow showers. From Wednesday onward it looks like plenty of sunshine filled days extending into the weekend.

The Mile High Jazz Band with vocalist Jakki Ford will be joined by several poets and readers on Tuesday, March 12 for an evening of big-band music and poetry on the theme "Hang Ups."

Each poem will be followed by a related big-band tune. The event will be at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. It runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Admission is $5 at the door and free for age 18 and under.

It's "big-band jazz times three" when the Mile High Jazz Band, Carson High Jazz Band, and Carson Middle School Jazz Band present the 16th annual combined Jazz Extravaganza concert Tuesday, March 19 in the Bob Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center.

The program, Autumn Big-band Jazz, presents the 17-member Mile High Jazz Band playing favorite and new big-band songs. The concert celebrates Harmony for Humanity as part of World Music Days, an annual global event affirming the ideals of tolerance, friendship, and shared humanity, inspired by the life and work of journalist and musician Daniel Pearl.

A day of remembrance, heroism that won’t be forgotten, today is Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018. Among Carson City featured events include a presentation by Nevada’s Homeland Security Advisor at the Nevada State Library, a National Day of Service outdoor cleanup at Silver Saddle Ranch and a 9/11 Memorial Service at Mills Park. The annual Jukebox International Film Festival will kick off with events Aug. 22 and run through Aug. 25 in Carson City. Film screenings will occur Aug. 23-24.

Head up the short hill to Silver City for a special hands-on Engineering activity for kids. Join local author Cindy Sutherland for this month’s edition of the Brown Bag Lunch Series at the Nevada State Library and Archives. Freshman, and their parents, are welcomed to Carson High School this morning for orientation, an overview of policies, and a tour.

More than 40 craftsmen and artisans joined together in the heat during Greenhouse Garden Center's 15th annual "Art at the Greenhouse" event on Saturday, part of the Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival continuing in Carson City.

Looks like another great day to stay indoors. The Carson City Library has several activities planned today, and one of them might be what you’re looking for. Story time this morning is for the little ones. Just about everyone is welcome to participate in their weekly Lego Club build. Families will enjoy movie night; just make sure to register online if you’re planning on seeing Peter Rabbit with them this evening. The Jazz and Beyond Music Festival is in full swing, so you’ll find plenty of music around.

Friday opens the 15th annual Jazz and Beyond Music and Art Festival in Carson City that features 17 days of music, art and film at multiple venues in Carson City, August 3-19.

It’s almost August and that means the sounds of jazz, jazz and more jazz at the various venues around Carson City, thanks to the coordination by the Mile High Jazz Band.

Jukebox International Film Festival, the only event of its kind to feature films that have music only as a central driving theme, is proud to announce the Official Selections that will be screening this year in Carson City on August 23-24, 2018.

Tuesdays are happening in Carson City. Tonight, the Mile High Jazz Band takes to the stage at Living the Good Life for their monthly performance. Take advantage of the new program at the Nevada State Library and Archives: once a month, you’re welcome to bring a lunch and listen to a presentation.
