Mile High Jazz Band presents Autumn Jazz Tuesday at Comma Coffee

Mile High Jazz Band presents Autumn Jazz, a program of big-band music, on Tuesday, October 7, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street. General admission is $5 at the door; free for age 18 and under. This performance is on the first Tuesday of the month, rather than the usual second Tuesday of the month.

Autumn Jazz is part of World Music Days, an annual global event affirming the ideals of tolerance, friendship, and shared humanity, inspired by the life and work of journalist and musician Daniel Pearl.

Mile High Jazz Band features 'Light of Day' theme for Tuesday night music, poetry session

The Mile High Jazz Band with vocalists Sheryl Adams and Cindee LeVal will be joined by several poets and readers for an evening of big-band music and poetry on the theme "Light of Day." Each poem will be followed by a related big-band tune.

The event will be on Tuesday, September 9, 7:30-9:30 p.m., at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson Street, across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. The event will be outdoors in the adjacent courtyard, weather permitting. Admission is $5 general and free for age 18 and under.

Because of unstable weather conditions in Carson City, the "Jazz & Beyond" music festival is moving its concerts for today, Sun., Aug. 10, from the Legislative Plaza to the Carson Mall. People are encouraged to hear Back Forty at 4:30 p.m. and CeCe Gable with the DG Kicks Octet at 6:00 p.m. People are encouraged to bring their own chairs.

"Jazz & Beyond" is a yearly festival put on by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and its sponsors. Admission to this concert is free. Donations are requested and include a chance at a door prize.

The 2014 Jazz and Beyond - Carson City Music Festival will open Friday, August 1 with a "Mad Hatter Garden Party" featuring music by the Corky Bennett Trio in the backyard of the Nevada Governor's Mansion.

The ticketed party features music, finger foods by Carson City Confections, wine, beer, and a raffle. Festivities run from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

The "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival," in collaboration with Carson City, is proud to present five of several bands at the Nevada Sesquicentennial Fair in Fuji Park on Saturday, August 2. "Jazz & Beyond" runs from Aug. 1 to Aug. 17 and features over 50 events, mainly in the downtown Carson City area.

The five "Jazz & Beyond" bands at the Fair on August 2 are Sons of Slide Mountain, RVGS Tantalus, Lynne Colvig Latin Jazz, the Reno Jazz Orchestra with singer Jackie Landrum, and the St. Christopher Project, featuring the music of Tom Waits.

Renowned trombonist Bill Watrous to appear at Jazz and Beyond concert series

The Mile High Jazz Band is proud to present legendary trombonist Bill Watrous in concert and in a master class on Monday, Aug. 11, at the Carson City Community Center.

These events are part of the "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival," which runs from Aug. 1 to Aug. 17 and features over 40 events, mostly in the downtown Carson City area.

Carson City Leadership Institute graduates class of 2014 tonight

Today is the official graduation ceremony of the Carson City Leadership Institute Class of 2014. They’ve spent 8 months of intensive study learning about Carson City and have made new friends and business acquaintances.

Friday night at the Chamber’s annual meeting, which is sold out, the class will unveil its unique and historic class project that has the souls of some very historic figures, including our founder Abram Curry, dancing on their graves.

Plans for Carson City Jazz and Beyond Music Festival underway

Get ready for an exciting summer of music when the Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival takes place, August 1-17. The festival, which began in 2004, is presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Assoc.

Last year, the Jazz and Beyond Festival featured 60 performances and over 100 performers, and organizers hope to match that accomplishment this year. Most performances are presented free to the public. Beyond jazz, the festival included bluegrass, blues, mariachi, and more.

History of Rock n' Roll presentation Aug. 6 at Brewery Arts Center

Musician and educator John Shipley will present a lecture and demonstration with slides and audio samples on the history of rock n' roll, concluding with questions and comments from the audience and the raffle of an electric guitar. With tradition, community spirit and the launch of the Carson City jazz festival in mind, residents are welcome to a cool summer evening with music and sweet treats as the Carson City Historical Society hosts its annual Ice Cream Social this Saturday.

Festivities begin at 5 p.m. and feature live music, mountain men and quilters. The event takes place at Foreman-Roberts House Park, 1207 North Carson Street. The event is free to get in and costs $3 to enjoy the ice cream and cookies.

The "Jazz and Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" committee is seeking volunteers, sponsors, and program advertisers for the 10th annual festival, August 2-18.

The festival, which began in 2004, is presented by Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City, local businesses, and jazz lovers. It features more than 100 world class, regional musicians in over 40 performances and special programs at multiple venues in Carson City’s historic district, near the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
