Tenth Annual Mile High Carson High Jazz Extravaganza

It's "big-band jazz times two" when the Mile High Jazz Band presents the tenth annual Mile High-Carson High Jazz Extravaganza, on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, 7:30 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.
The concert, sponsored by the Carson High Jazz Band and the Mile High Jazz Band Association, is a benefit for the Carson High Jazz Band programs.

Millennium Bugs to Perform Sept. 7 at Silver Oak in Carson City

The Millennium Bugs, a five-piece combo affiliated with the Mile High Jazz Band, will perform on Friday, Sept. 7, 7:00 to 10 p.m., at Silver Oak Golf Club and Event Center, 1251 Country Club Drive, Carson City. Admission is free.
The musicians are Gil Linsley, trumpet; Dan Lancaster, sax, flute, clarinet; David Bugli, keyboard; Charles DiLaura, bass; and Neil Strocchio, drums. The group plays a variety of jazz styles for listening and dancing.  

Tried and True: An Evening of Big Band Jazz and Poetry

Tried and True: An Evening of Big Band Jazz and Poetry will be on Sept. 11 at Comma Coffee in Carson City.
The Mile High Jazz Band with vocalist Sheryl Adams will be joined by several poets and readers for an evening of big-band music and poetry on the theme "Tried and True." Each poem read will be followed by a related big-band tune. Comma Coffee, is located at 312 S. Carson Street, across the street from the state legislature building in Carson City. Expert guitarists Terry Scott, Steve Hayes, and Dave Bell provide music, conversation, and insights on playing guitar as part of a band. This is a great festival event for guitar students, musicians at all levels, and music fans who want to learn more about guitars and jazz. The event includes raffle drawing; grand prize is a guitar from the Guitar Center of Reno, custom adjusted by Terry Scott. They will wrap up the afternoon with a guitar jam.

Carson City goes full-board live music with Jazz and Beyond Music Festival in August

The summer sizzles as the Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City, local businesses and jazz lovers proudly present the 2012 "Jazz & Beyond" Carson City Music Festival, an annual event that began in August 2004. Performances at multiple venues in Carson City will feature more than 100 musicians in over 50 bands, Aug. 3-19 and are mainly free. Music styles include Dixieland jazz, big band, bluegrass, Latin, blues and folk.

'Jazz and Beyond' seeking volunteers for annual festival

The "Jazz and Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" committee is seeking volunteers, sponsors, and program advertisers for the ninth annual festival, August 4 to 19, 2012. The festival, which began in 2004, is presented by Mile High Jazz Band Association, Carson City, local businesses, and jazz lovers. It includes more than 100 world class, regional musicians in over 30 performances and special programs at multiple venues in Carson City’s historic district, near the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.

The Mile High Jazz Band and vocalist Sheryl Adams will be joined by several poets and readers and guest vocalist June Joplin for a lively evening of big-band jazz music and poetry with a new twist. For "Potluck: A Smorgasbord of Poems and Big-Band Jazz," poets names will be drawn from a hat for each reading, followed by a big band tune.

The program features award-winning poets and readers Krista Lukas, Tracy McQuay, Wayne Carlson, Lee Warner, Terri Breeden, and Joe Crowley.

Admission is $5 general at the door, and free for age 18 and under.

Jazz Sampler for Sweethearts features the 18-member Mile High Jazz Band with vocalist Sheryl Adams, presenting jazzy versions of favorite love songs for Valentine's Day, and other swinging, big-band selections.

STRAZZ: Youth Jazz on the Plaza

The public gathered on the Legislative Plaza on Sunday afternoon to hear STRAZZ, the Strings in the Schools youth jazz ensemble, play a selection of jazz-style favorites. The free concert was sponsored by the Mile High Jazz Band, as a part of their Jazz! Carson City Jazz Festival. The festival runs throughout the month of August, with free events sprinkled throughout the calendar, as well as one paid event taking place at the Bliss Mansion.

Getting in the Mood: The Commanders Jazz Ensemble

Mile High Jazz Band Association and Carson High Jazz Band present a free concert by The Commanders Jazz Ensemble from the US Air Force Band of the Golden West. The concert is a preliminary event to the "Jazz! Carson City" music festival, which will feature over 45 free music events this coming August.

Teams now forming for Carson City’s Relay For Life

Carson City area walkers will go around the clock in the battle against cancer during the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

This celebration brings together numerous groups and individuals concerned about cancer in a unified effort to fight back.

Teams of enthusiastic residents will gather at Centennial Field for an overnight relay from 10am July 16th to 10am July 17th. The event celebrates anyone who has battled cancer and their caregivers and also remembers loved ones lost.
