The number of Carson City, NV homes that sold was 60 in June 2019 vs. 89 in June 2018 and 120 that sold June of 2017. This is a 50% decrease in the number of sold homes in 3 years.

The featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon will be Sandy Severance, program director at Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). A 501(c)(3) non-profit, RSVP has a 43-year record of service to the elderly and other citizens in need of assistance in all 15 of Nevada's rural counties. Volunteers 55 and older are provided meaningful opportunities to draw on their lifetime of experience to serve their communities in a variety of settings.

DAYTON — Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties hosts its farmers market in Dayton for the 10th summer. The market is Thursday evenings from 4 to 7 p.m. It is co-located with Healthy Communities’ new community garden, known as the Solidarity Garden. This will offer market patrons the opportunity to join the community garden as well.

CARSON CITY — For the eighth consecutive month, Nevada has held the fastest rate of new job growth in the nation, according to May 2019 employment figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. Statewide, jobs increased by 4.0 percent, a gain of 55,200 new jobs added since May of last year.

CARSON CITY — Chinese immigrants were abundant in the mining camps of the Sierra Nevada in the latter half of the 19th century.

In the 1860s, the first Chinese immigrants found their way to Aurora, Nevada and by the 1870s, they had settled along King Street in Bodie, California, creating a sizeable Chinatown. By the 1880s, they cornered the woodcutting market, providing cordwood and charcoal to neighboring residents, businesses, and ranches.

CARSON CITY — According to the latest initial claims data from the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, April initial claims for unemployment insurance benefits fell to a relative record low this month. With May’s reading of 9,400 claims, this is the lowest May reading since 1999.

Nevada continues to add jobs in May, unemployment holds steady at 4 percent

CARSON CITY — May employment in Nevada increased by 5,900 jobs over the month and is up 55,200 over the year while the state’s unemployment rate at 4 percent, remained unchanged from April, and is down 0.6 percentage point compared to May 2018, according to figures released Wednesday by the state's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
