As you drive along Highway 395 during the holiday season, there’s a good chance you’ve noticed the little wooden reindeer wrapped in lights. Those are the Willow Reindeer, and it’s an art project that gets bigger every year.

Hundreds of handcrafted willow reindeer are installed along 62 miles of Highway 395, spanning from south of Gardnerville all the way north of Reno. And now it’s time for them to head back to the North Pole, but it’s a task too large for one man.

The Nevada Seismological Laboratory reports a series of 32 very small earthquakes since Nov. 28 in the vicinity of North McCarran and Highway 395. The largest of the earthquake cluster was felt early Saturday, 2:02 a.m. with a magnitude of 1.9.

The rumors of Santa Claus coming to town are true. The jolly old man is making several appearances today, and is feeling photogenic. Adults have a hard choice to make: the monthly downtown wine walk and the Holiday with a Hero Pub Crawl both take place today, and I’m not sure I’d recommend attempting both.

Consort Canzona, a select group of instrumentalists and singers specializing in early music, will present “An Early Music Christmas” concert for the holiday season on Friday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m., at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 (just south of Best Buy) in Carson City. Admission is free, donations welcome.

Tis the season for visits with Santa, holiday twinkle lights, and craft fairs and festivals. Carson City fire and sheriff's departments, Nevada Highway Patrol, East Fork Fire and Douglas County Sheriff's Office were called Saturday night to a vehicle crash in the southbound lane of Highway 395 and Topsy Lane.

Highway 395 remains closed Tuesday at the Nevada-California state line as firefighters continue to battle the Chris Fire that began Monday west of U.S. Route 395, about five miles north of Sonora Junction near the Chris Flat Campground.

A wild fire is actively burning Monday in Mono County on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Bridgeport Ranger District west of US Highway 395 about five miles north of Sonora Junction, near Chris Flat Campground.

UPDATE 10:15PM: Seven teenagers injured in a single vehicle rollover accident last Thursday night on Kings Canyon Road will get additional support from the local community as Carson City businesses are donating proceeds to help pay for medical costs.

Welcome to the weekend, Carson City. Now that we are in November, thoughts turn to the holiday season. That means craft fairs. St. Paul’s Lutheran Family on Saliman welcomes you to their annual Craftique Open House. You’ll find the Young at Heart Seniors Club hosting a faire at the Douglas County Community Center. The Carson Nugget’s Sierra Room will be home to several artisans, vendors, and crafters during today’s wine walk. There’s quite a bit more, and plenty that doesn’t involve shopping, so take a look and have a great time.

Hello fellow anglers, you still have time to wet a line in our local area rivers and streams. Nov. 15 is the final day to fish rivers and streams in Alpine County and much of the Sierra. Lake fishing, however, will remain open through the winter season for some but not all Sierra lakes. In a later article, we will discuss the joys of ice fishing.

Chances are, you’ll need to recover from yesterday a little. Downtown Carson City has you covered with a ‘Sunday, Bloody Mary Sunday’ bloody mary contest in Arlington Square. Get your trick-or-treat on at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada or at the historic Wungnema House at the east end of Mills Park. Grand Entrance at the La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow begins at 12 p.m. Its new home at the Multi-purpose Athletic Center (MAC) has let the annual event become even bigger. You’ve got one last chance to get your fill of cotton candy and the Ferris Wheel: the RSVP Nevada Day Carnival closes at 8 p.m.

It’s Nevada Day weekend, and that means the annual parade and festivities will bombard downtown Carson City with thousands of revelers. I made the decision to put all of the parade related events into a separate list for a few reasons: one, this list would be way too long otherwise; two, Halloween fun is plentiful all weekend long; and three, I want my list to be as easy to read as possible.
