Motor vehicle accident blocking eastbound lanes of Spooner Junction

Carson City emergency crews and the Nevada Highway Patrol are on scene of a motor vehicle accident in the eastbound lanes of Spooner Junction, where Interstate 580, U.S. Highway 395 South and U.S. Highway 50 West meet in South Carson City.

The accident is blocking traffic. Motorists can expect delays.

Carson City Fire Department assists with fighting 'Berry Fire' wildfire near Washoe Lake, forward progress stopped

UPDATE 5:42PM: Old Highway 395 is now open in both directions after a wildfire closed the highway from Eastlake to Bellevue, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

UPDATE: 5:20PM: Forward progress stopped on Washoe Valley "Berry Fire."

The 8-acre fire is now 30 percent contained according to Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District.

Evacuations are still in place for remaining addresses.

Crews will remain on site overnight "mopping up." Some Carson City Fire Department crews are being released from the scene. The cause is under investigation.

5:00PM: Good progress on the Berry Fire is reported by Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District. Firefighters are working to secure utilities. The evacuation area has been reduced to 8 addresses. The Galena Evacuation Center is now closed.

Old US 395 between Bellevue and Eastlake Drive closed for approximately 1 hour.

Washoe Valley outages have yet to be fixed. Original estimated time of restoration was 5:30PM, however the fire could prolong the restoration.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A power outage affecting around 8,100 NV Energy customers occurred at around 5:38 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the Carson City and Carson Valley areas just as a strong thunderstorm cell was moving through the region.

Carson City Fire Department, the Nevada Highway Patrol and sheriff's deputies were called to a traffic accident Thursday afternoon in the southbound lane of Highway 395 near the junction of Highway 50 Spooner.

Carson City fire crews called to assist on brush fire in southern Douglas County

UPDATE: 1:10PM: The brush fire has been contained, according to East Fork Fire Protection District Deputy Fire Chief David Fogerson, as reported by KTVN Channel 2 News in Reno.
Per the Channel 2 News report, officials said the fire started after a crow came into contact with a power line.
Fire crews are now mopping up the fire, and Topaz Park Road has reopened.
The fire was burning uphill, officials said, and light winds appeared to work against the fire.

UPDATE: Washoe Lake Dam breach concerns lessen as repairs begin, flood watch canceled

TUESDAY UPDATE: A Flood Watch has been canceled for the Washoe Lake Dam, according to National Weather Service in Reno. Officials say mitigation efforts have reduced the hazard of a potential breach in the dam at Little Washoe Lake. There was concern the dam could breach or collapse after a hole was discovered in it.

The Nevada Division of Water Resources reports that after a routine inspection Monday, it was determined the Washoe Lake Dam is in danger of potentially breaching that would cause flooding in the Steamboat Creek and Steamboat Ditch areas.

Highway 395 near Topaz Lodge reopened

UPDATE 3:51PM: Progress was made cleaning up the massive debris flows caused by a mudslide Monday across Highway 395. With help from the Nevada Department of Transportation Highway 395 is now open. The Douglas County Road Department, Town of Minden and the Town of Gardnerville made progress on Topaz Park Road and it remains open.
