Thunderstorms have developed Thursday afternoon around the Carson City and Carson Valley regions, according to the National Weather Service, with one fire reported to have started near Woodfords in Alpine County.

A head-on collision involving two vehicle has temporarily shut down westbound traffic at Spooner Junction, where Interstate 580 intersects with South Carson Street, U.S. Highway 50 West and U.S. Highway 395 South.

Consort Canzona Early Music Instrumental Ensemble and the Joyful Noise Carson Children’s Choir will perform a free concert on Saturday, April 21, 7 p.m., at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 (just south of Best Buy). Admission is free, donations welcome.

The Western Nevada College Veterans Resource Center invites the community to participate in the fourth annual Veterans Suicide Awareness March at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5 in Carson City.

The CHS NJROTC Orienteering team participated in the California Orienteering Week held March 17-25, and this was the first time CHS has made it this far in competition.

Windy conditions will persist Wednesday afternoon and evening around Carson City while snow is expected to move into the Sierra region with impacts to travel over the mountain passes around the Lake Tahoe Basin through Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

While the heavy rain weather forecasters anticipated over the weekend failed to arrive, windy conditions did and will arrive again Tuesday ahead of a storm system that extends into Wednesday and Thursday that may bring some light rain and possible snow showers to the Carson City and Sierra regions.

A powerful spring storm moving into the Sierra, Carson City and western Nevada regions will bring drenching rains, gusty winds and the potential for river flooding through Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

UPDATE: A Flood Warning has been issued along the East and West Forks of the Carson River in Douglas County including the main stem of the Carson River from the confluence to the Cradlebaugh Bridge on Highway 395 in western Nevada. See the National Weather Service flood warning here.

A strong atmospheric river storm will impact the Carson City region, western Nevada and Sierra from Friday afternoon into Saturday, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Watch for much of the area.

We’ve got a beautiful spring weekend to enjoy. I’d like to make this easy on you: if you are only looking for Easter-related fun, you’ll find it all HERE in my list of everything Easter. Those events are also included in this list, but there is so much more going on. Take a hike with Muscle Powered, get down to some live music, or cheer on your favorite roller derby girl.

Easter festivities are on the way, starting with the Easter Eggstravaganza in the Bob McFadden Plaza on Thursday. You’ll find fun stuff: Easter Bunny photos, brunches, egg hunts, services and more throughout Carson City, Dayton, Douglas, and Virginia City. To make it easier to find something in your neck of the woods, I’ve put in ‘bold’ the name of any town outside of Carson City.

Do you ever wonder about that old stone house at the eastern entrance to Mills Park? Called the Wungnema House it has interesting history. Take a tour today during the monthly open house, and learn more about the early residents of Carson City. As a child of the 80s, I’m excited about this week’s Flashback Cinema feature at Galaxy Theaters. "The Dark Chrystal" was a favorite of mine. If you’ve got kids, or a pang of nostalgia, catch one of the two showings today, or again Wednesday. Read on for more of what's happening today.

The weekend has arrived, and it will be an exceptionally long one for the schoolkids of Carson City: spring break begins Monday. There’s a rumor of snowfall for this weekend, but it’s not expected to be too heavy in the valley. Don’t quote me on that, though, I’ve been wrong before. Break a leg to the Douglas students performing in ‘Game of Tiaras’ this weekend; the show sounds hilarious, but be warned, it’s not for kids. After Friday's storm brought as much as 13 inches of snow to Carson City, the next storm to arrive this week is likely to produce rain in the valleys with heavy snow to stay in the Sierra, according to the National Weather Service.

Will Carson City see several inches of snow on the ground from a winter storm expected to blow through region beginning Thursday? National Weather Service forecasters are leaning toward a resound yes.

With Carson City receiving a healthy dusting of snow overnight and around an inch or more in surrounding areas, weather forecasters now have their eyes on what may turn out to be the biggest winter storm of the season so far for the Sierra and lower valleys.

Pieces from an aircraft that crashed and killed a Minden pilot Monday have been recovered by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team.

It’s been a cold week, and today is no exception, but you can have a hot time tonight. Live music, comedy, and karaoke are just some of your nightlife options. It’s family BINGO and Chili night at Carson Middle School: get some grub, maybe win one of the great prizes, and help the CMS Band Program raise funds. Dayton has a BINGO night of its own. Head to Dayton High School to get in on the action. It’s opening night for the Proscenium Players. Their production of ‘Love Letters’ runs for one weekend only, so get your tickets early. UPDATE: 1:48PM: The Douglas County Sheriff's Office confirms at least one person has died in a small plane crash in the area of Hobo Hot Springs west of U.S. Highway 395 and south of Plymouth Drive in northern Douglas County.
The wreckage of a Piper PA-34 Seneca aircraft was located by search crews with the East Fork Fire Protection District and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office at about 12:20 p.m. Monday.
The initial report of a downed aircraft came in at around 11:30 a.m. Monday morning, and emergency crews were dispatched to the scene.

After more than two weeks of sunshine and unseasonably warm temperatures in the Carson City region, the National Weather Service says there's a slight chance for some snow showers developing Sunday night into Monday morning.

UPDATE: After voting in December to come up with a plan, the Nevada Department of Agriculture released a request for proposals Tuesday to identify a new owner of the Virginia Range estray horses.

Overnight snow showers are quickly melting as weather turns to blue skies for the afternoon. A common Nevada saying is proving accurate, today.

With a dusting of snow on the ground and icy conditions on local roads, motorists are urged to use caution and slow down while driving this morning. Carson City School District reports its buses are running on time.
