A Red Flag Warning for western and northern Nevada including the Carson City and Lake Tahoe areas has been issued for Sunday by the National Weather Service due to the threat of new fire starts from dry lightning strikes.

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued Red Flag fire weather warnings for western Nevada including Carson City and the eastern Sierra which are in effect on both Sunday and Monday.

Sunny, hot days are expected for Carson City and western Nevada region as high pressure gradually builds bringing dry conditions with it. Temperatures will continue to warm and remain above normal through the Tuesday, the July 4 holiday and beyond.

With hot weather settling into the Carson City region, the chance of afternoon thunderstorms will increase through the early part of the week, according to the National Weather Service.

Carson City and western Nevada will experience a cool down through this weekend with breezy conditions and sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service.

With the three-day weekend ahead, folks headed outdoors can expect a warm up with sunny skies and relatively dry conditions around the Carson City and Lake Tahoe region during the Memorial Day holiday stretch.

With rising temperatures bringing snowmelt runoff from the Sierra, a Flood Watch is in effect beginning Sunday for much of the region, including Carson City, Lyon, Washoe and Douglas counties, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

A strong Pacific storm system will make its way into the Sierra and Carson City region beginning late Thursday, bringing snow and heavy rain with a potential for flooding in the region, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a flood watch.

After periods of clouds and isolated showers this weekend, rain is expected to return to Carson City late Sunday into Monday morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno reports, accompanied by a high wind watch with gusts as high as 45 miles per hour (mph) and sustained winds between 15-25 mph by Monday afternoon.

After a brief break, active weather will return to the Carson City and Sierra regions Thursday bringing mountain snow, valley rain and gusty winds, according to the National Weather Service.

While relatively calm conditions will dominate the beginning of this week, changes around Carson City and Sierra regions may arrive by Thursday with more rain and snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Some road controls exist at mountain passes and on roads at higher elevations for the Thursday morning commute, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT).
