Carson City weather: Valley rain, wind and Sierra snow in the forecast this week
Rain, wind and mountain snow along with colder temperatures will return to the Carson City region and Sierra this week, according to the National Weather Service.
The first system arrives late Monday evening into Tuesday with precipitation beginning as rain but changing to snow in the mountains. Valley rain is expected Tuesday into Wednesday with gusty winds and periods of travel disruptions.
Snow levels will begin around 7,000 to 8,000 feet Tuesday morning, falling to around 6,500 feet Tuesday evening. The heaviest precipitation is expected to be Tuesday into Wednesday morning with accumulating snow for the Sierra with rain in the valleys of Carson City, Carson Valley, and Dayton areas.
During the day on Wednesday into Thursday, convective snow showers may bring snow levels even further down to 5,500 feet, according to the weather service.
Total snowfall accumulations from this system are forecasted to be roughly 10 to 20 inches along the Sierra crest through early Thursday with up to a foot above 7,000 feet and up to 3 inches down to 6,000 feet.
Travel impacts are expected in the mountains due to snow and wind.
