NHP releases more details, photos of deadly Nov. 9 crash in south Carson City

Nevadans interested in training to become foster parents in rural Nevada have an opportunity to join a four-session virtual training beginning Jan. 20, 2024.

The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services is working to recruit and train foster families in Nevada’s 15 rural counties to support children in need.

A 30-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Sunday for suspicion of provoking an assault after a witness showed deputies a video of her challenging a neighbor to a fight, according to a Carson City Sheriff's Office booking report.

Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team members including North Lake Tahoe, North Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas fire protection districts, California State Parks, Nevada Division of Forestry, and the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, will continue prescribed fire operations this week at Lake Tahoe, conditions and weather permitting. Smoke may be present throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin and surrounding areas.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary at a storage facility located in the area of Highway 50 and Fairview that occurred August 31, 2023. Throughout the course of the investigation, photos of the suspect have been obtained.

Mile High Jazz Band will present “Cool January Jazz” on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2024, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Gina's Good Life Music & Lounge, 507 N. Carson Street inside the Carson Nugget. The music is free, donations welcome.

The 17-member band will play favorite big-band jazz tunes from its extensive repertoire and feature the vocal stylings of Jakki Ford. Pianist and band leader David Bugli said, "This is the band's first performance of the new year.

Two days before a winter storm shut down government offices in Northern Nevada, Gov. Joe Lombardo asked if certain licensure requirements could be waived by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) to address a shortage of highway maintenance workers who keep roadways clear.

The father and son who had been accused of starting the Caldor Fire after target shooting in the area will no longer be facing reckless arson charges after a judge ruled there was a lack of evidence to move to a trial.

There was a vehicle fire Sunday afternoon on I-580 north of Carson City in Washoe Valley. It happened in the southbound lane, one mile from the Bowers Mansion turnoff.

UPDATE: NV Energy is working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible for affected customers, according to a news release Sunday morning. Additional resources are coming in from other NV Energy regions to assist crews already working.

Outages are caused by the heavy wind throughout Northern Nevada during the evening and overnight. Northern Nevada experienced a nearly 18-hour high wind event. The wind damage includes both poles and wires down in multiple locations. Go here for the latest list of local outages.

As of 5:30 p.m., approximately 1,000 Carson City residents are without power according to NV Energy.

The outages are occurring throughout the capital city. Multiple downed power lines and overturned trees are being reported. Fire fighters and first responders are responding to many of these calls.
