Medical Marijuana Bill Passes State Senate 17-4
A bill that would allow medical marijuana dispensaries in Nevada passed the State Senate 17-4 on Wednesday. SB374, introduced in March by Sen. Tick Segerblom, would authorize and regulate medical marijuana dispensaries to serve Nevadans with medical marijuana cards.
“I think that this bill is a reasonable start down the path of complying with our own constitution,” Sen. Greg Brower said, referencing that while medical marijuana is legal in Nevada, it cannot legally be purchased. In March, both the American Civil Liberties Union and Las Vegas district court judge Donald Mosley called Nevada’s medical marijuana law “unconstitutional” as it restricts people from filling a legal prescription.
Last Thursday, SB374 cleared a final committee hearing by the Senate Finance panel after the state Health Division said it could fund startup costs for managing the program.
SB374 now moves on to the Assembly.
