Carson City Man Found Guilty of Sexually Assaulting Girl
A 49-year-old Carson City man was found guilty Friday of seven counts of sexual assault of a young girl.
After eight hours of deliberations, jurors convicted James Johnson of three counts of lewdness with a child under 14, three counts of sexual assault on a child under 15, along with one count of sexual assault on a child under 16.
The trial lasted three days and was prosecuted by Carson City Assistant District Attorney Mark Krueger and Deputy District Attorney Iris Yowell.
"The jury's verdict brings justice to the victim in this case and while it does not nullify the agony she suffered from the years of abuse she endured at the hands of the defendant, it should help her to begin to heal," said Krueger. "The district attorneys office aggressively prosecutes those who prey upon the most vulnerable members of our community."
The victim is now 17. She was 8 years old when the assaults began and continued until she was 15. She told a friend to promise not to tell and the friend told the girl's father who then reported it to police on Dec. 12, 2012, said Kreuger.
Johnson's attorney was Noel Waters. He will be sentenced in June and faces life in prison.
