Tigers capitalize on timely hits to top Senators
MINDEN -- Hitting was the key on Thursday afternoon when the Carson and Douglas high school softball teams collided to open the Sierra League season. The difference was timely hits that fell in for the Douglas Tigers, who collected 15 hits en route to an 8-4 victory.
Carson had nine hits and put runners on base in six of seven innings. However, the Senators (0-1 league, 1-3 overall) left seven base runners stranded, four in scoring position.
"We hit the ball, but early on, it seemed like we were hit some hard balls right at people," Carson coach Scott Vickrey said. "I think we were a little tight to start the game. You could see it when we were taking infield, but they seemed to settle down as the game went on."
"Douglas is just a good, quality club. They're going to be right in the thick of this thing to the end (of the season)."
