Comment on So Gibbons wants to lay off state workers? Well, it may get dicey… by luvsnv
State workers are not just numbers to be “adjusted.” They have families to feed, mortgages to pay, etc. just like the private sector. How many private sector workers were/are taking 12 unpaid days a year off of their salaries? When the state workers are laid-off, they will get unemployment. Cheaper on the taxpayer? Sure, but the ripple effect of less money to the struggling Carson businesses, foreclosures possible, and let’s not forget the potential for even more suicides in Nevada. And what about the state workers who are already overburdened with duties due to attrition? How effectively will they be able to do their jobs when they take on even more duties due to lay offs? Or an increase in furlough days?
How about Senator Reid using some of his 15 million dollar war chest to actually helping Nevada turn things around financially instead of using it to sell himself to an unemployed state of workers?
