McFadden Plaza to host music fundraiser for Alzheimer's research

A concert featuring several Northern Nevada musicians will be held Saturday, Sept. 23 from 4 to 9 p.m. on Bob McFadden Plaza in downtown Carson City to benefit the Alzheimer's Association.

Lightning strikes bring wildfires throughout northern, western Nevada region

UPDATE: Lightning strikes on Tuesday afternoon may have contributed to several fires burning in the region, including the I-80 fire near Vista Boulevard in Sparks, the Micro Fire in central Lyon County southeast of Stagecoach, the Lyons Fire, which is in Douglas County but seen as far away as Dayton and Yerington. That fire as of early Wednesday morning was reported to be around 500 acres. It is located northeast of Sunrise Pass in the Pine Nut Mountains.

Night in the Country's 2017 volunteer program raises record amount for area nonprofits

Organizers of the annual Night in the Country Music Festival held at the Lyon County Fairgrounds in Yerington last month say this year's fundraising efforts garnered more than $74,000 that will be distributed to 40 area nonprofit organizations.

West Nile Virus found in three western Nevada horses

The Nevada Department of Agriculture has confirmed three horses tested positive for West Nile Virus in western Nevada in the last two weeks. All three horses were not vaccinated. Two of the horses were located in Lyon County, one in Dayton and one in Yerington, and the other in Washoe County.

Human West Nile virus case reported in Lyon County

UPDATE WEDNESDAY: Lyon County has had three (3) confirmed cases of WNV. Two (2) of them were confirmed via pre-screening of donated blood. One (1) case was confirmed to have the less severe form of the illness.
The three (3) cases were located in Fernley and Yerington.

Carson City Health and Human Services is reporting the first human cases of West Nile virus in Lyon County for 2017. The Disease Control and Prevention Division at CCHHS oversees disease surveillance and investigations in Lyon County and is the agency monitoring the situation. The individuals confirmed to have WNV were diagnosed with the less severe form of the illness.

Nevada State Lands accepts deed making Walker River State Recreation Area an official park

Lyon County Manager: Walker River Basin flood levels peak, now begin to fall

Lyon County has closed Miller Lane in Yerington due to flooding issues. In the past 48 hours Lyon County has discovered the road barriers moved and a county vehicle damaged, officials said.

Miller Lane from US95A to Aiazzi Lane near Yerington was closed Tuesday morning due to flooding in the area. Lyon County Road Department will not open it back up until waters have receded and it's safe to drive, said County Manager Jeff Page.

Lyon County officials find some relief with latest Walker River flood forecast

The National Weather Service in Reno has changed the forecast in reference to flooding on the Walker River. The River is now forecasted to reach a peak of approximately 2,500 CFS (cubic feet per second) by Friday instead of the earlier forecast of 3,370.
