Nevada Department of Wildlife to hold statewide game management town hall meetings

North America’s Oldest Dated Petroglyphs at Winnemucca Lake, Nevada

The lecture is Thursday, Oct. 22, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Nevada State Museum in Carson City.
Great Nevada Earthquake of 1915 spurs reminder for 2015 Great Nevada Shakeout

Only a few large earthquakes since then have rumbled the state, but nothing near the surface scar — with a vertical offset as high as 19 feet – that stretched 35 miles across Nevada’s Great Basin.

Submitted by editor on Sat, 08/29/2015 - 1:29pmHello fellow anglers, the weather has cooled down a little and the fishing has started to pick up around the area. Last weekend I took a trip early Saturday morning up to the East Carson River above Markleeville.
The mornings are cold, but warmed up about 7:30.
I fished a few long stretches of the river I have never fished before. I tip my hat to the Alpine County Fish and Game Commission. I just picked these spots at random because of the way they looked, Like something out of Field and Stream magazine.

Fire-spotting camera system developed by UNR installed on mountain peaks in Great Basin

A Bureau of Land Management Nevada grant awarded to the University of Nevada, Reno to develop, install, and maintain a remote camera system, is in the initial phase of a five-year planned comprehensive network to cover vast areas of the state for early fire detection and response.

Jim Rackley wins 2014 Wayne E. Kirch Conservation Award

Rackley’s commitment to Nevada’s wildlife resources was recognized during the March 20, 2015 Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioner’s meeting in Reno, Nevada, where he received the award.
Rackley was nominated for the award by Nevada Muleys a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring the conservation of mule deer and their habitats in Nevada. According to the nomination, in 2014 Rackley had a “very impressive record of time and commitment to Nevada’s wildlife.”

— A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 11:36 p.m. in the 3300 block of South Carson Street on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. According to the arrest report, the man had been climbing on the roof of the complex yelling at his neighbors. It had been going on for the past few nights, the arrest report states. Bail: $242.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension offers training for users of pesticides

The workshop is meant for certified applicators and people who regularly handle pesticides as part of their jobs, such as farmers, ranchers, park employees and groundskeepers.

Carson City Greenhouse Project among specialty crop grant recipients
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 10/07/2014 - 11:08amThe Carson City Greenhouse Project at Carson High School is one of 14 projects in Nevada to receive specialty crop block grant money designed for organizations that promote and enhance speciality crops through education, research, marketing and production, the Nevada Department of Agriculture announced Tuesday.
The $21,577 in grant money earmarked for the Greenhouse Project will help fund the Growing America’s Future Farmer program, said JoAnne Skelly, extension educator with the University of Nevada and grant writer for the Greenhouse Project.
Sesquicentennial themed corn mazes featured across Northern Nevada

Tours will be at various times throughout September, October and November. Six different Nevada farms will host a wide array of activities and games including corn mazes, petting zoos, pumpkin patches, prizes, and more.

Ashlee Nicole Karow, 22, also faces misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, petit larceny and a misdemeanor warrant for failure to appear in a Douglas County court.
Rain possible overnight followed by midweek warmup and cooler weather Thursday

The front will likely bring showers and thunderstorms to the region with moderate rainfall. A band of rain is likely to develop along the Interstate 80 corridor from Lake Tahoe to Winnemucca overnight into Sunday morning. How much rain in the Carson City region, if any, is uncertain.
NDOW seeks to hire 7 new game wardens for mostly rural duty stations
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 09/10/2014 - 11:57amThe Nevada Department of Wildlife has seven openings for entry level game wardens, most of which are in rural Nevada duty stations. This is the largest recruitment of game wardens in NDOW’s history.
“The agency has experienced several retirements and some turnover in the last few years,” said Tyler Turnipseed, Chief Game Warden at NDOW.
Career training agency Join, Inc. offers extended job assistance help to unemployed
