It’s back to school and back to work after a long weekend, but don’t let the day feel like a Monday. Join the Classic Cinema Club for Whistle Stop, a love triangle starring Ava Gardner. Five years ago, our community suffered a great shock when four people, including three National Guardsmen, were the victims of a shooting attack at IHOP. You can’t go wrong with Improv night at the Brewery Arts Center or Carson Comedy at the Nugget. Let the sun go down while enjoying Ten Dollar Pony on the outdoor stage at Living the Good Life. After a months-long remodel that began earlier this spring, the Hacienda Market and Grill opened its doors to customers on Aug. 25, owner Elsa Kinzie said.

Where has the time gone? We are moments away from Labor Day weekend with its Best of the West Rib Cook-off, monthly Downtown Wine Walk, Fallon Cantaloupe Festival, and Virginia City’s Civil War Days. Enjoy a walk in the Ronald D. Wilson Memorial Park, just west of Emerson Drive. Canyon White, the award-winning singer-songwriter, can be found at her weekly gig at Living the Good Life joined by Keith Alan Barnett. Take the kids to Minden Park for the final family concert in their GE Series: Foreigner Unauthorized begins at 6 p.m. Shine up the chrome for the Carson SYFL Car Show at Bully’s Sports Bar, and catch some NFL pre-season while you’re there. The sixth annual Hopefest Concert and Fundraiser at Carson Tahoe Hospital kicks off at 5 p.m. Enjoy food trucks, live music with the Waybacks, and more at the free, family friendly event. McFadden Plaza is where you’ll find Jazz and Beyond’s concert with the Jackie Landrum Band, Living the Good Life is serving up a performance by Prey for Son, or take the stage yourself at Carson Lanes’ karaoke. The United States Air Force Band of the Golden West has returned and will be at the Community Center tonight, if you were quick enough to grab free tickets from the Chamber of Commerce. Join the ladies of Muscle Powered for a mountain bike ride through beautiful Ash Canyon. Hear the stories and legends of the Washoe People in their native language with translations into English at the Carson Valley Cultural Center. Continue on for even more to do.

Celebrate Lake Tahoe’s most prestigious food, wine, spirit and brew festival this fall at the 31st Annual Lake Tahoe Autumn Food and Wine Festival September 9-11.

Fifteen days of non-stop music begins tonight at the Bliss Mansion with the Jazz and Beyond Garden Party; don’t miss out on the fabulous art show, tours of the historic home, and great jams. Downtown will be rocking tonight as the Carson High Class of 86 celebrates their reunion in Telegraph Square with two live bands. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Just down the street, Living the Good Life welcomes Southbound Train followed by DJ Bobby G. Fuji Park is the place to be for cowboys, broncs, and a great concert celebrating Carson City.

Holy Tuesday, Batman! Today is jam-packed full of options around our valley. A walk with Parks and Rec, a movie viewing with the Classic Cinema Club, and life-sized board games at the Library are all on the docket for today. The big story, of course, is National Night Out with the Carson City Sheriff's Department. Free food, activities, fun, and even an aircraft or two descend on Mills Park for the annual party.

Living in the dusty, dry high desert means that we escape cancerous car rot. Additionally, it’s probably the reason that Northern Nevada is a mecca for classic cars and the shows that celebrate them. The Silver Dollar Classic Car Show has long been Carson’s kick off to the hot, melty August nights that follow – the Max Casino is where it all begins. Head to Red’s Old 395 for an appreciation party to those who fight our wild fires and say a hello to Smokey the Bear. Trey Stone makes an appearance at Living the Good Life and Whiskey Tavern welcomes you to their karaoke stage.

I really hope I’m not required to choose a favorite event. I would be hard pressed to choose between the Nevada Day Parade and the annual Taste of Downtown. Luckily, I can adore them both, and for much the same reason. They are a celebration of community, of Carson City, of our historic downtown and all that it has to offer. In addition to 'The Taste', the Brewery Arts Center goes country with the Southern Drawl Band on its outdoor stage, and Madam Curry leads another downtown Ghost Walk. I am quite fond of Tuesdays. For a weekday, they usually have some great offerings. Today's Easy Walk with the Parks and Recreation Department takes you along the Moffat Open Space on the east side of town. The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada offers 'Books and Brags', essentially a story with craft time. Have a hot time with the fire-dancers of Controlled Burn: they meet at A to Zen on Tuesdays and welcome newcomers.

The weekend is moments away, Carson City. While you’re waiting, enjoy an outdoor concert with local favorite, Stereo Galaxy, at Living the Good Life. We made it, Carson City. Friday has arrived and the weekend is moments away. The annual Chili Cook-off at Glen Eagles, the last few performances of Aladdin, Jr., and the all new Polynesian Festival are just about here. Tonight you’ll want to enjoy CV-41 at Living the Good Life: just the first of their outdoor summer shows. Local legend, Unkle Funkle, is hitting the stage at the Carson Nugget. Get your reggae fix at the Westside Pour House when Whiskey Lung starts jamming. Join Mike Thompson at the Plaza Hotel: the Roswell Incident is the subject of tonight’s lecture.

The fireworks went off in Carson City last night without a hitch, bringing the end of another incredible weekend. Today may feel a little like a Monday, but there are plenty of ways to enjoy yourself. Check out the new Spirit of America show at the Nevada Artists Association Gallery at the Brewery Arts Show. Our local Classic Cinema Club meets tonight and will be showing 'A Walk in the Sun' with Dana Andrews. If you feel like playing with fire, Controlled Burn meets at A to Zen to practice the right way to handle the flames.

Carson City has had the pleasure of welcoming Rowan brothers, Lorin and Chris over the years as they’ve played at Cafe at Adele’s. This year is no different, but with one exception: In addition to opening Concert Under the Stars, A Benefit For The Greenhouse Project, Thursday, July 14, The Rowans also play at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, on the veranda.

Welcome to July, Carson City. How do you want to start out the month? For some laughs, head to Carson Comedy in the Nugget Casino or Improv Night at the Brewery Arts Center. Take the kids to Carson Hot Springs: free admission for those under 18 today. Break a leg, Wild Horse Children’s Theater. Aladdin Jr. opens tonight at the Carson City Community Center. Mills Park is home to a carnival for the long weekend, so grab yourself a funnel cake or a spin on the Ferris Wheel tonight until 10 p.m.

Summer is moving right along. We are days away from the Fourth of July weekend: fireworks, the Downtown wine walk, a carnival at Mills Park, and Wildhorse Children’s Theater's production of Aladdin, Jr. Weekdays in Carson City aren’t shirking their duties though, as there is plenty to do today. Learn some swing dance moves at El Charro Avita or go for a walk with the Parks and Recreation Department. Singer-songwriter, Canyon White, entertains at Living the Good Life. For those with a skewed sense of humor: Mystery Science Theater 3000 makes an appearance at Galaxy Theater tonight.

The weekend isn’t over, but it’s beginning to wind down. Catch the Pet Parade as part of Dayton’s Oodles of Noodles Festival. Everyone is welcome to join in at the BMX Track at the Livermore Sports Complex: Olympic Day means free racing and no membership required. Head to Eagle Valley Golf Course for a free Family Golf Clinic.

SUNDAY:

Last weekend the cyclists ruled our city, but now the hot-rodders are king of the road. The Rockabilly Riot is jam-packed with activities all over town: the races and booths at Mills Park; a street dance at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar; a tattoo show in the Community Center; a free concert at Gold Dust West; and Burlesque at the Nugget.
