Here is an annual suggestion, if you would like to take a mid-summer vacation at an out-of-the-way location. 
Do you know that our very own White Pine County is home to one of the Nation's least visited and Nevada's only National Park?

It's the 77,000 acre Great Basin National Park.
 If you've never been there, here is a whole bunch of useful information:

Nevada's water resources division to hold statewide 'listening sessions' through summer

The Nevada State Engineer will hold a series of public meetings during the months of July and August. These “listening sessions” will provide information to the public on water related issues in Nevada and to listen to any and all comments, suggestions and questions from the public about water related issues.

The Carson City meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Bryan Building (NDWR Office), Tahoe Hearing Room, 2nd Floor, 901 S. Stewart Street.

Forest Service identifies 10 priority areas in Nevada to reduce wildfire risk

The Clear Creek watershed that runs through Carson City and Douglas County and Franktown watershed at Washoe Lake are two of 10 areas within the Nevada's national forests to be picked as priority projects designed to combat damage from insects and disease that weakens forests and increases the risk of wildfire, U.S. Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell said Wednesday.

Responding to a provision in the new Farm Bill, Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval had asked Tidwell to designate the watersheds and eight other areas for forest health projects.

Sportsman groups offer prizes to Nevada big game hunters in Silver State Tag drawings

No offense, but if you don’t put in for a Silver State Tag when the big game application period opens on Monday, you must not like hunting very much.

The Silver State Tag already allows hunters the chance to hunt one of four premier big game species (mule deer, Rocky Mountain elk, Nelson (desert) bighorn sheep and pronghorn antelope) anywhere in the state, but now you also have the chance to win thousands of dollars of hunting gear as well.

Public invited to hear students at Poetry Out Loud State Finals in Reno March 15

The public is invited to the 2014 Nevada Poetry Out Loud Competition State Finals at the Siena Hotel Spa Casino Ballroom in Reno Saturday, March 15, from noon to 3 p.m.

Fifteen students who gained the status of district finalists after a series of local competitions will vie for awards totaling $4,000 for the first, second and third place winners and their respective schools.

Cooperative Extension offers training in Food Safety in Horticultural Operations

RENO, Nev. – University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and the Nevada Department of Agriculture will offer an Introduction to Food Safety in Horticultural Operations training, focusing on risk management and good agricultural practices March 11. The training will provide an introduction to on-farm food-safety practices related to fruit and vegetable production. Participants will learn principles of good agricultural and handling practices.

ANGEL LAKE, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (http://www.ndow.org) reports:
Fishing varies from day to day, with some days being good, while others being slow. Best time of day is from about 6:00 am to 10:30 am and then again after the shadows start to hit the water in late afternoon.
Best conditions seem to be with a 5 to 10 mph breeze, putting a small chop on the water.
A few fish are being taken with small dry flies, mostly yellow in color, but most of the luck is still coming with nymphs below an indicator or dry fly.

Due to the recent weather, most fish have been eating at night, pushing back the best time to go fishing on the lake. Most reports indicate that time is somewhere around 10:00AM.

Carson City, Washoe County health agencies receive grants to explore partnership

Health agencies in Carson City and Washoe County have each received a $125,000 two-year grant that will be used to explore ways to partner, otherwise known as "cross-jurisdictional sharing."

The Carson City Health and Human Services and Washoe County Health District are recipients of Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grants that will aid in the mission of protecting and promoting health in both counties, according to a news release.
