Don Q's Nevada and Northern California fishing report for week of April 3-10

Here is this week's fishing report for rivers, lakes and streams in Nevada, Northern California and the Sierra. This report is for the week of April 3-10. Opening day of fishing for most California lakes and streams is Saturday, April 27.
The California Department of Fish and Game 2013-14 rules and regulations for freshwater fishing are attached below.

ALMANOR LAKE, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Though unseasonably warm in the north state, light cloud cover has been holding the heat in, and its improved the bite.
Surface temps have been pushing upper 40’s.
The west basin is shallower than the east, expect this area of the lake to warm first. Clarity has improved to 9 feet-plus in some areas.
Lots of good reports all over the lake.
Courtesy of Almanor Fishing Adventures.

ALMANOR LAKE, CALIF:
Brian Roccucci of Big Daddy's Guide Service (530-283-4103) (bryan@bigdaddyfishing.com) reports:
Fishing Report March 29:
Just a quick update today due to a busy fishing schedule.
The bite over the course of the last week has been pretty solid, just a little up and down, probably due to the unsettled weather patterns that have been moving across the area as well as that big bright full moon.
I have been continuing to work the shallows of the east shore as well as some spots on the west side with Rapalas for a pretty solid pick of quality Browns. Understand we are chasing a moving target as I mentioned in previous reports, where you find fish one day you may not find them the next but we are being rewarded for our efforts.
The water temps have been running mid to high 40's depending on the time of day and location on the lake, so it looks like this bite should continue.
Today we had one heck of a day of fishing, hooking more than 20 fish and landing 19 by noon.
No wall hangers today just a steady stream of nice Browns in the 3 to 3.5 pound range one nice Salmon and few Smallmouth Bass or "SMB's".
The conditions were perfect as far as I was concerned, a fog layer covered the lake for most of the morning and kept the bright sun from hitting the flat glassy water. On the way in, the fog lifted and it was a beautiful ride back to the ramp with the lightly snow covered face of Mount Lassen gleaming in the sun light.

ANGEL LAKE, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
The road has been closed for the season, so there will be no more fishing reports for Angel Lake until it opens next spring.

BLUE LAKES, HUMBOLDT COUNTY, NEV:
Closed until the second Saturday in June 2013.

BLUE LAKES, CALIF:
The road is closed.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF:

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF:
John Voss of the Caples Lake Resort (209-258-8888) (www.capleslakeresort.com): reports:
Caples Lake is starting to thaw! We are predicting that the lake will be thawed by the middle of May. We will be reopening for lodging at the end of May on Memorial day weekend.

CARSON RIVER, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Current flow is 185+ CFS. Fishing has picked up with the consistent flows.
The Gardnerville area near the broken dam has been producing good numbers of fish.
The Carson City area received recent stocking.
Lure fisherman should try Kastmasters and Blue fox lures. Salmon eggs drifted works well this time of year.
Fly anglers try prince nymphs, gold ribbed hares ear and yellow stones.

CARSON RIVER, WEST, CALIF:
Closed until the last Saturday in April 2013.

CARSON RIVER, EAST, CALIF:
Closed until the last Saturday in April 2013, above Hangman's Bridge.

CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Closed to fishing Opens  Sat. April 27,2013.
The lake is totally ice free and stocking has begun. With 4 weeks to eat and fatten up opening  fishing should be very productive.

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
The most exciting time to fish is on its way, May and lasts until the end of July. This is when the damsel fly hatch begins. Bringing large rainbows into the shallows and surface cruising for the nymphs and sometimes adults.
The fishing can be nerve-racking, many large rainbows splashing, water containing thousands of migrating nymphs. You only hope they take your imitation along with the other "real" food.
For now, fishing pressure has been very light.
Use night crawlers dressed with Berkley’s garlic-flavored trout dip.
The average fish reported has been around 17 inches in length.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR, LINCOLN COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Fishing has continued to pickup over the past week with most anglers catching rainbows in the 12- to 15-inch range using a variety of small spinners and lures such as a Mepp’s or Kastmaster.
Some anglers have done well using red, white and blue Power Bait.
The campground is open and water has been turned on.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR, LINCOLN COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Fishing from the dam has been especially good this week. One pair of anglers caught and released more than 40 trout in just a couple of hours with small Mepp’s spinners. The fish averaged 11 to 13 inches long.
The campground is open.

FEATHER RIVER, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Excellent salmon fishing and steelhead fishing, as well as striped bass and shad, and has produced some of the most consistent numbers of salmon in Northern California.
All different sizes of fish are being caught in the low flow areas. Steelheads are biting worms, roe, glow bugs, flies, and small spinners.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF:
Wiggin’s Trading Post at Chilcoot (530-993-4683) reports:
04/01/13
Lots of people were out and about this week with the nice weather and many of them were fishing at Frenchman Lake.
Rich Olsen and Brett W. From Reno and Sparks came out last Thursday and spent about 3 hours fishing at Lunker Point and Crystal. They caught 2 nice rainbows about 15 to 18 inches each. They were using worms and powerbait - red and chartreuse.
Joseph Chavez, Bryant Giesey, and Mondo Laguna from Reno caught 12 rainbow trout in about 4 hours while fishing at the dam and at Crystal Point. They were also using powerbait and nightcrawlers.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Good to fair fishing expected over the next few days, especially when using nightcrawlers. The weather will stay in high 50’s low 60’s, and be mostly sunny with the possibility of a few scattered showers.
Courtesy of The Wiggins Trading Post.

HOBART RESERVOIR, WASHOE COUNTY, NEV:
Closed until May 01, 2013.

HOT CREEK, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Water flow is 8 CFS. Spring is here and the fish  are hungry.
Look for the BWO's and when the fish are low, try WD-40's,small P.T.'s and  green rock worms.
Very crowded of late.

ILLIPAH RESERVOIR, WHITE PINE COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Illipah also has open water for fishing and by next week should be mostly open if not completely free of ice. From shoreline to shoreline out approximately 30-35 yards into the reservoir.
Winter runoff has caused the reservoir to become murky; however, recent contact with anglers who report fishing is fair to good for nice sized fish.
The road going in is rutted and if wet, anglers should take care.

JAKE'S/BOIES RESERVOIR, ELKO COUYTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
This lake is ice free and fishing should be good here.

JIGGS / ZUNINO RESERVOIR, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Unfortunately, Jiggs has dried up.

JUNE LAKE LOOP, CALIF:
Closed until the last Saturday in April 2013.
A report as of Thursday, March 28:
The June Lake Loop Highway is open all the way and snow free.
Grant Lake: Ice free - Silver Lake: Frozen - Gull and June: Ice free.

KLAMATH RIVER, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Conditions remain excellent, but fishing has been fair.
Its nearly time, say "it's been a great season."
If you go this week expect to find a few steelhead, only if you know where to look. Otherwise, wait for the salmon fly hatch this June.
It's almost time for our famous Dry Fly fishing!
Flies of the week: Shafer's 3-D, Pat's Rubber Legs, #12-14 Prince Nymphs, Shrimp Pink Micro Spawns and a select Boles Bazookas.
And don’t forget your Red Copper Johns!
Courtesy of The Fly Shop.

KNOTT CREEK RESERVOIR, HUMBOLDT COUNTY, NEV:
Closed until the second Saturday in June 2013.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
No recent reports, but anglers have reported good walleye fishing this year. Best methods have been jigs and plastic worms fished shallow in the morning and evening.
Move deeper as the sun rises. Lures that mimic crawfish are a good method as well. Follow shore points and rocky or grave structure. This type of habitat will hold fish waiting to ambush bait fish.

LAUGHTON, CLARK COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Colorado River:
The striper bait is slow but rainbow trout are providing anglers with good action. A pair of anglers recently checked in with bows pushing past the four-pound threshold. Trout are biting in the Davis Camp area, along Casino Row and near Rotary Park.

LEWISTON LAKE, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
The going’s still tough. Still breezy, and coming chance of rain this week.
However if you and your patient use leeches and #16-18 nymphs you have a good chance of hook-ups. Suspending midges under indicators almost always produces a few nice, fat Lewiston rainbows as well!
Courtesy of The Fly Shop.

LUNDY LAKE, CALIF:
Closed until the last Saturday in April 2013.

MARLETTE LAKE, CARSON CITY & WASHOE COUNTIES, NEV:
Closed until July 15, 2013.

MASON VALLEY WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Hinkson Slough – North Pond – West Walker River
Hinkson Slough opened February 9. Fishing has picked up.
Fly anglers have been using midge patterns and copper johns.
Although bass fishing has been slow, things should pick up soon.

LAKE MEAD, CLARK COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Striper action has definitely picked up over the last couple weeks.
Anglers are reportedly catching fish as large as 20 pounds with many coming in the 8- to 12-pound range.
Gizzard shad and various plugs are catching the fish.
Most of the activity has been found throughout the lower basin, especially in the area from Saddle Island to the back of Las Vegas Wash.
Reminder to boaters:
In an effort to hinder the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS), as of Jan. 1 all motorized and non-motorized vessels able to retain water are now required to obtain and display an AIS decal. Details can be obtained from an NDOW office.

LAKE MOHAVE, CLARK COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
The bite is on for largemouth and smallmouth bass. With the fish in spawning mode working baits near rocks or stumps in the shallows should yield some hits.
In a strange twist, one lucky angler fishing near Willow Beach hauled in a 28-pound striper while using Power Bait near mile marker 52.
Another large striper weighing in at 26 pounds was taken at mile marker 49 on a Rooster Tail.
Just proves that sometimes the unconventional will catch the big ones as well as the tested and proven

ORVILLE LAKE, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Action is steady at Lake Oroville for bass at around 30 feet using jigs, shaky head, dart head and drop shot worms.
There has been a wide open bite on 10-12 inch land-locked Coho Salmon on just about any offering with minnows is a good bet.
With the Coho bite being so active using swimbaits for bass may entice a big one to bite.
Courtesy of My Outdoor Buddy.

OWENS RIVER, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Upper Owens River:
Current flow is 57 CFS. Warming temps should pick up the bite here.
Not much on the surface so dig deep with flash back hares ears, prince nymphs and bead head caddis pupa.
Lower Owens River:
Water flow is up a bit at 237 CFS. Fishing continues to improve. Nice caddis grab. e/c caddis  cdc caddis  x-caddis. Red  jujube midge, small Stevie's Wonders in black or grey and olive or grey WD-40's.
Baetis hatch midday but not much surface activity.

PIT RIVER, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Fishing has been good to fair. The wet weather may be causing the fish to move around. Beware, this river is known as a tough one to wade. Bring a wading staff! We highly recommend wearing a PFD (Personal Flotation Device) too. The Pit River is a demanding river to wade thanks to slippery, bowling-ball like boulders and rocks.
Courtesy of The Fly Shop.

RUBY LAKE NWR, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
The water in the collection ditch is turbid as the melt is causing silt to cloud up the water. The ice is gone here, though fishing hasn’t changed a lot here.
Fishing has been fair to good for both numbers and size depending upon the day. Fishing has picked up lately as trout move in from the marsh to the collection ditch and springheads looking for spawning habitat.
Chironomids, blood midges and hares ears in sizes 14 to 18 are working.
Hare’s ears seem to be the best pattern to start with and then if the fish aren’t going for them, move to the others.
If you see fish rolling, grease the nymphs and fish them in the film to top six inches, otherwise, get them all the way down to the bottom. Expect to lose some tackle.
Egg patterns are starting to work now as rainbow trout start their spring spawn. Wooly buggers in black, olive and white with some flash should also be tried if the small stuff isn’t working.
If you tie your own flies, put some rubber legs on your buggers for some extra action.
Many anglers fish just the brown dike and the pond behind the hatchery, but there is plenty of great fishing the whole length of the ditch.
The collection ditch is artificial lures only and wading is not allowed.

SACRAMENTO RIVER (LOWER), CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
It’s been very windy, though still getting good reports for fly fishing.
Big rainbows are being found within the Redding City limits, also below Anderson River Park. Insect hatches consist of #16 dark springtime caddis. A few PMDs have been coming off.
Courtesy of The Fly Shop.

SACRAMENTO RIVER (UPPER), CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Reports have been good/fair, however the warm weather caused cold snow runoff, making the bite fall a bit.
Hot flies: #6 Thurmanator Dark Stones, #14-16 Dark Lords, Amber Wing Gordon Princes in #12-16 and Red Copper. Have a few BWO patterns ready. Always have a few Parachute Adams in #16 in your fly box.
Courtesy of The Fly Shop.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF:
Kirk and Lisa Portocarrero at outdooradventures@sacriverguide.com and www.sacriverguide.com (1-800-670-4448) report:
March 29, 2012
Northern California fishing Lake Shasta.
We offer daily guided fishing on Lake Shasta. Lake Shasta fishing is great.
Catching limits of salmon and trout. We are catching mostly Rainbow Trout  on the surface and also about 40 feet deep.
The Dry Creek area, using Cripp Lures and Wiggle Hoochies.
Anglers, book now for the Spring Break. Lake Shasta is place to be for lots of action and great trout fishing & salmon fishing.

SHASTA LAKE, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Fishing is fair to good. Dry Creek has been the best.
Try for Rainbows from 6am till 8am, at the surface.
Salmon are going down to around 0 to 80 ft deep, using Hummdingers and Wiggle Hoochies.
Bass fishing is excellent around the shorelines to 20 ft deep. Most fish average 10 to 15 inches, Ripp Baits, Crank baits , along the rocky shores has been the best bet for numbers of Bass.
4 inch Plastic worms have been the ticket for some bigger fish!
Courtesy of Sacriver Guide.

SOUTH FORK RESERVOIR, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
The dock at the main boat ramp on the northeast shore is in and is usable.
The new ramp on the southwest side of the lake is not usable at this time.
Spring stocking is expected to start here sometime next week.
The west side of the lake is producing fish from Jet Ski Beach north to the dam, with some of the best fishing taking place on the bluffs on the northwest side of the lake near the dam.
Anglers report both smallmouth and largemouth bass being caught over the past few days as the water temperature has climbed into the high 40 degrees by afternoon. Anglers report catching a number of fish on chironomid and leech patterns fished about seven feet below and indicator.
This means that worms fished about seven feet under a bobber may also work in this area as well.
The south end of the lake has been slow this week, though a couple of anglers report a few fish using a coffee and black verigated wooly bugger. This is the time to try bloodworm patterns fished within a foot of muddy bottoms like the south end of South Fork. Of course other flies, such as wooly buggers, leeches, seal buggers, hare’s ears and PT nymphs can all be productive as trout start feeding more now that the ice is off the water. Fishing the stream below the reservoir has produced some nice fish, while fishing above the reservoir has been slow.
However, the first quarter mile below the reservoir has been getting hit pretty hard so fishing is slowing here and it is recommended that anglers head further downstream for better fishing.
Anglers are being asked to avoid the redds (fish nests), which are clean gravel patches seen on the bottom of the river.

SPOONER LAKE, DOUGLAS COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
As the ice melts fishing should pick up.
Anglers using lures normally have luck imitating bait fish.
Fly anglers have had luck with black, brown, and green Wooly Buggers.

STAMPEDE RESERVOIR, CALIF:
Rick and Tresa Kennedy of Tight Line Guide Service (888-975-0990) (www.fish tightlines.com) report:
3/29/13 Stampede Reservoir:
We met our Michael and Chase Barnes of Reno at the Stampede Ramp at 6:30. We decided to make a couple runs up the Little Truckee arm see if we could find a Brown.
The fog was like pea soup, I was thankful I had the Lowrance 4G Radar on the boat. Within 10 minutes we landed a nice rainbow, I haven’t seen many rainbows like this come out of Stampede in a few years.
That was the good news.
After a couple hours of top lining Rapala’s with only one other hit we decided to switch over to slow trolling for Mack’s. We fished hard with everything I had in the boat. I talked with a couple other guys on the water and they hadn’t had a touch.
We let out a top line with a Sep’s Watermelon Dodger and an Uncle Larry’s Bloody Tiger tipped with Pink Pautzke Fire Corn after seeing some Kokanee on the surface. It wasn’t long before we landed and released a couple 10” Kokanee.
Finally, we hooked a Mack on the Pro Troll Sting Fish. At the same time, Paul Kneeland called on the radio and said he was hooked up as well.
Chase landed a 13 ½ pound Mack. We went a about an hour before Michael landed a 4 ½ pound Mack.
Stampede wasn’t a wide-open bite but we did manage a couple nice fish.

LAKE TAHOE:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Fishing has been excellent.
The weather has been outstanding for Tahoe fishing.
The Mackinaw fishing has been great in all the typical spots.
Concentrate your efforts near drop offs and rock piles.
Top lining has been producing brown trout and rainbow near any structure type areas. While top lining, try using minnow plugs and spoons and make sure to change up often. The fish can be very selective this time of year. Mackinaw fishing white dodgers trailing minnows is a effective method.

TOPAZ LAKE:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Fishing is starting to pick up. Boat anglers should try using Rapalas and nightcrawlers behind dodgers. Shore fishermen should try Power Bait, Power Eggs, salmon eggs, and nightcrawlers.

TRINITY LAKE, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
No current fish report, however good news: March through June are the favorite months for experienced bass anglers there. The lake has good populations of both largemouth and smallmouth bass. A dredger piles at the head of the lake, as well as other structures found in the coves and points throughout the lake provide excellent bass fishing for most of the year. Spring always provides the hottest action, as both species move into the shoreline to spawn.
Courtesy of Fish Trinity Lake.

TRINITY RIVER, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Though the season is undoubtedly over, the smolts are coming down from Lewiston, and they are fast, and aggressive, will bite at almost anything, if you want to take the kids this could be an exciting time for them!
Courtesy of The Fly Shop.

TRINITY RIVER, CALIF:
Kirk and Lisa Portocarrero at outdooradventures@sacriverguide.com and www.sacriverguide.com (1-800-670-4448) report:
March 27, 2013 Fishing report
Currently, Water is at 300 CFS.
Trinity River Steelhead fishing is up and down, catching a few steelhead. Rain this week will help, we'll keep you posted on any drastic changes.
Fishing areas for Steelhead on the Trinity River are from Lewiston to Pigeon Point. Fly fishing is best bet for catching a few steelhead.
Flies working best are Stone flies, Copper John's, and Egg patterns.
Bait fisherman using lures  and producing nice Steelhead, as well.
Trinity River fishing is conveniently located 40 minutes West of Redding, CA  fishing from the town of Weaverville, Calif.

TRUCKEE RIVER, WASHOE COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
The Truckee's current flow in Reno is 468+ CFS.
This time of year floating salmon eggs, Power Bait and imitating bait fish work well.
Fly anglers should concentrate on nymph fishing and streamers.

WALKER LAKE, MINERAL COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
No new updates. No Lahontan cutthroat have been reported or seen at Walker Lakes since 2009.
Launching is not possible right now.

WALKER RIVER, EAST, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
East Walker Flow is currently at 71 CFS. Fishing has been good with the low river flows.
Recent reports from fly anglers have shown improved success.
Current brown trout study is going on and researchers are requesting information on tagged fish including color (to determine if wild or hatchery) and location where caught.

WALKER RIVER, EAST, CALIF:
Jim Reid of Ken’s Sporting Goods Store in Bridgeport (760- 932-7707) ( HYPERLINK "http://www.kenssport.com" www.kenssport.com) reports:
East Walker River:
March 31, 2013
The East is still fishing really well, the flows have been at 40 CFS for a week or so now.
Some anglers are reporting 20 to 30 fish per day, lots of fish in the 14 to 20 inch range. Small midge patterns have probably been the best thing going but we have had some good reports on dries as well as dry/dropper rigs.
If you’re fishing in the upper mile keep your dries small, in the 18 to 20 size range, if you’re fishing below “The Mile” or down in Nevada you can go with larger dries as there’s some stonefly action happening in those areas.
Patterns to fish include: flashback emerger, mercer’s midgeling, san juan worm, zebra midge, WD-40, GT emerger, copper john, pheasant tail, blue dun, blue wing olive, chubby Chernobyl, parachute adams, rubber leg stimulator, poxyback stone, micro stone, prince nymph, hare’s ear.
Sorry my website hasn't been updated lately, I've been having some difficulties with my server etc. I hope to have it back in action asap.

WALKER RIVER, EAST, CALIF:
Steve Osterman of Performance Guide Service (760-934-6101) (www.performanceanglers.com) reports:
Water flow is still 40 CFS. Fishing is  tough.  Warming weather should  get the fish busy. WD-40's, buckskin nymphs, copper John's and Prince nymphs.

WALKER RIVER, WEST, CALIF:
Closed until the last Saturday in April 2013.

WASHOE LAKE, WAHOE COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Washoe Lake dried up in 2004 and, although it is presently full and has been restocked, the fish population, consisting mostly of channel catfish and white bass, is small. Fishing is expected to be poor.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
There is a ring of water around the lake, the ice is unsafe and it is starting to recede at Hot Creek at the south end and in the back of Penrod Arm. About the only place fishable is the back end of Penrod though the water is murky and stained.
No report of any anglers fishing, but with the warm weather predicted for the next 10 days, if we get a little precipitation and some wind, we should have open water for fishing soon.
The lake has risen just a bit, but it doesn’t appear to be filling very quickly and if we don’t get some substantial precipitation this spring, Wild Horse could be in trouble this summer.

WILLOW BEACH, CLARK COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
Anglers are finding good action for large stripers. The fish are biting A.C. Plugs and other trout-imitating swimbaits. Three fish weighing in at 16.16 pounds, 17 pounds and 27.76 pounds came in during the past week. Rainbow trout continue to hit small spinners and other traditional trout baits following the weekly plants on Fridays.

WILLOW CREEK RESERVOIR, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
This lake was drawn down to about 10% of capacity last summer and hasn’t come back very much, so expect an early crappie and catfish season here. Chances are the best fishing will be in May and then due to possible low water conditions, the fishing will get poor again.

WILSON RESERVOIR, ELKO COUNTY, NEV:
The Nevada Department of Wildlife (www.ndow.org) reports:
The road to Wilson is in good shape and fishing should pick up here.
The lake is starting to rise, though it is still about four and a half feet from spilling. While it should spill this spring, chances are it won’t have a lot of flow heading down the canyon.

WHISKEYTOWN LAKE, CALIF:
Shasta Cascade Wonderland Association (530-365-7500) (www.shastacascade.com) reports:
Still no current fishing report. The lake is not especially known for good fishing, however if your patient there is plenty to catch.
Most reports say the colder areas by the powerhouse are good trout areas and the rest are decent for bass.
