Western Nevada College has announced their newest fitness class, R.I.P.P.E.D.

R.I.P.P.E.D. is designed to help everybody meet their ultimate fitness goals in a super fun group exercise environment.

This 1 hour class combines Resistance, Interval, Power, Plyometrics, Endurance, core and offers a very important Diet program on the Rippedplanet website.

CARSON CITY — Royce Ponton gave birth to a new baby boy, Leviathan Wayne Ponton at 12:53 AM on Jan. 1, the first baby of 2020 at Carson Tahoe; he also achieved the title of first Northern Nevada baby born in 2020! But, unbeknownst to Royce, she had even more to celebrate!

Heading into last day of 2019, we're looking at partly sunny skies with a high around 50 and low around 30. Activities around the capital city region are lined up through the day and evening. Enjoy and celebrate as we prepare to toast a welcome to 2020. Also do consider a designated driver, cab ride, Lyft or Uber to be on the safe side for your ride home if out celebrating. As we head into the final Monday of 2019, we're looking at a slight chance of light snow in the morning as a weak weather system brushes the region. Events around the Carson City area include a driver's education class offered through Western Nevada College Continuing Education, a luncheon featuring Patricia Ackerman, a Democratic primary candidate for Nevada's 2nd Congressional District, art activities and more.

Heading into the weekend, post-Christmas holiday activities continue around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a Christmas Through the Years presentation at the Carson Valley Community Theater, Open Mic Night at A to Zen Gift Shop, musicians Lauren Kepler and Dan Cypher at Bella Vita Bistro, laughs at the Carson Comedy Club and much more!

The Whistle Stop Inn on North Carson Street is the center point in a topic of discussion regarding transitional housing in Carson City. Friends in Service Helping, also known as FISH, along with a new program designed to lend a helping hand to qualifying individuals who want to better their lives, are now considering refurbishing the entire property.

Hello Carson City and happy day after Christmas. It has been a truly wonderful holiday season experience and it's not over yet. We celebrate our community for its many, many charitable functions and its generosity in the spirit of Christmas and giving. Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a toy and gift drive for homeless kids and teens, the 12th annual Christmas Carol Playalong for Strings at the Carson Mall, Carson City’s first-ever "Unsilent Night" at the Brewery Arts Center, a Só Sol dinner with entertainment at Sassafras, a "Pink Party" cancer center fundraiser at the Lighthouse Bar, comedian Dan St. Paul at the Carson Comedy Club and more.

Jack C. Davis Observatory at Western Nevada College is ending 2019 with something new. Observatory Director Thomas Herring will moderate the first “Astronomy Roundtable” on Saturday, Dec 28 at 6:30 p.m.

Attendees at the third annual La Posada Celebration try to hit the piñata at Western Nevada College, on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019. The event allows students and families to honor their cultural traditions while gaining familiarity with the campus and the Latino Cohort.

Happy Saturday Carson City! Tired of the fog yet? Well, there's a big storm that's scheduled to push in tomorrow, so it'll be interesting to see how that changes the weather.

Nevada's own Vegas Golden Knights will be hosting Hockey Clinics at Schools in Carson City on Friday, Dec. 13, and a Watch Party is scheduled at the Governor’s Mansion to see the Knights Play the Dallas Stars.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of holiday events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! CARSON CITY — Western Nevada College, part of the Nevada System of Higher Education, announced that it has hired Erica Gallegos to manage the GreenBizTracker database and to supervise WNC interns who will be hired for the Nevada Green Business Program.

The break in the stormy weather was a short one, with more precipitation later in the day Wednesday, forecasters say. Activities around Carson City on Dec. 4 include a "Red Kettle" job hiring event at the Carson City Salvation Army, a Fitness Lab grand opening on Minnesota Street, a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, library activities, classes and more.

Snow days, snow way. At least that's what the weather forecast calls for Tuesday. We'll see mostly cloudy skies before another chance of rain or snow arrives midweek and then a larger storm in time for the weekend. As the saying goes of Nevada weather: Wait a minute and it will change. It is also #GivingTuesday. If you have a favorite organization, it's a good time to send a few dollars their way. Around town there's art showings, a fitness walk, hike, dance classes and an old school film favorite at the Brewery Arts Center hosted by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club.

The Carson City School District has canceled school Monday after announcing a two-hour delay earlier this morning. The storm, which has intensified, caused the closure.

All Carson City School District employees, students and teachers should remain home. No student activities or programs will occur. This includes after school programs, practices, performances and contests including interscholastic athletic events, according to the district.

No school services such as transportation, nutrition or student health will be provided.

Western Nevada College's Carson City campus and Child Development Center will be closed Monday due to weather. Interactive Video classes transmitting from Carson City to other campuses are also cancelled, school officials announced.

A winter storm continues to bring a mixture of rain and heavy wet snow to the valley floor Monday morning, making for school and commute delays around the Carson City region.

UPDATE 8:59AM: All Schools in Carson City will be closed for the entire day today, Monday, Dec. 2, 2019, due to winter related conditions. All employees, students and teachers should remain home. No student activities or programs will occur. This includes afterschool programs, practices, performances and contests including interscholastic athletic events. No school services such as transportation, nutrition or student health will be provided.
WNC campus is also closed for the day.

Due to winter related conditions, all schools in Carson City will begin 2-hours later than their usual start time, Monday, Dec. 2, 2019. Principals will adjust the school schedule for the shortened day. Educators and staff should arrive at the school at least 15 minutes before school is to begin on the shortened schedule.

Christmas is less than a month away and many local families need help providing presents to their children.
To help fill this need, the Associated Students of Western Nevada at Western Nevada College are leading a Toys for Tots collection drive through Dec. 20.

With snow overnight into the morning, the eve of Thanksgiving will bustle with last minute food shopping and, for many, preparing for an extended holiday weekend. There's a few activities around Carson City on Wednesday, Nov. 27 including a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, classes and more.

The generosity of the Western Nevada College community has made it possible to feed 100 families Thanksgiving dinner.  WNC contributed 100 turkeys and other Thanksgiving dinner favorites to Friends In Services Helping’s annual High Five Turkey Drive.
