Join Capital City Arts Initiative in the Sierra Room of the Community Center; an artist reception for Claudia Knous begins at 10 a.m. Heads up, you’ll need to park on the east side of the building. Enjoy our award winning high school band, Blue Thunder, as they perform a winter concert in the Bob Boldrick Theater. They will be joined by the school’s orchestra as well.

Last week, Lief Larson was able to accomplish his goal of becoming a CrossFit Level 3 Trainer (CF-L3). After submitting over 1,500 hours of coaching experience and obtaining his CrossFit Level 2 Certificate, CrossFit Headquarters approved Lief to test for his Level 3 Certificate. He is only the fifth individual in Nevada, and the first CrossFit coach in northern Nevada, to be a Certified CrossFit Level 3 (CF-L3) Trainer. His other CrossFit certifications include CrossFit Powerlifting, CrossFit Mobility, and CrossFit Weightlifting.

Carson Tahoe Cancer Center, an affiliate of Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah, is hosting an art show through Friday, Dec. 18. This touching collection of over 25 pieces, created by patients, survivors, caregivers and loved ones, represents an inspiring journey of hope through paintings, mixed-media, music, photography, and quilt-work.

I would like to thank two members of Carson Tahoe Regional Centers Management Staff , Mina Fiddyment Director of Health and Wellness and Kim Mason Manager of Dietary Services for their innovative efforts to provide creative and informative services to our community. These ladies provide the community with helpful and fun ways for all of the different program participants to learn, grow and excel in our wellness goals. Thank you!

Oh, the weather out there is going to be frightful. A blustery storm is on its way in today, so you may want to bring in that inflatable snowman. Heading outside will be rewarded though. Dayton lights up its tree tonight at ‘Our Park,’ so dress in your ugliest sweater and enjoy some hot chocolate and cookies at their ‘Small Town Christmas’ celebration.

Have you been naughty or nice this year? You’ll have no problem finding Jolly Old St. Nick this weekend. At Debug Computers where, in exchange for a donation to Holiday with a Hero, you can get a photo with the man in red. The Santa Train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to grab a candy cane, some hot cocoa, and tell him what you’d like to find under the tree. Photographs with Santa are available at the Carson Mall Wednesday through Sunday. Genoa’s annual Breakfast with Santa has three seatings beginning at 8:30 a.m.

SATURDAY:

Don’t let hump day get you down, Carson City. Lunchtime blues with Dave Leather at Comma Coffee will get you through the workday. Geeks Who Drink trivia at Lake Tahoe Brewing Co. is a fun and silly way to pass an evening; and you can win prizes. Get some shopping done at the Carson Mall, and don’t forget your Hawaiian shirt: Hawaiian Santa will be there for photos. You’ll want your cowboy boots for line dancing at Carson Lanes.

It’s hard to believe that Christmas morning is just one month away. First things first, however, is Thanksgiving. This weekend is shaping up to be a great time for hitting the slopes, but not so great for the holiday travelers with more snow expected for today and tomorrow. Enjoy a pre-turkey day evening at Living the Good Life: DJ Bobby G will keep you on the dance floor. Sassafras is your bet for live music with a blues/funk trio: the Wesley Orsolic Band.

The Western Nevada Musical Theater Company has outdone themselves this season, so hurry and get tickets or you may miss out.

Today is Veterans’ Day: a day to commemorate the men and women of the Armed Forces that have fought, and possibly died, for our country. Thank you for your service. Several places around town are offering something special for our Veterans today: free coffee, free breakfast, free lunch, etc. You’ll need to bring proof of service. Tonight, everyone is invited to the party. Check out the Junebugs at Living the Good Life. The Portland pop-folk band returns for a night of fun and dancing.

Carson City's Pets of the Homeless annual food drive received record breaking donations on Monday. This national organization is dedicated to helping the homeless population provide for their pets through annual food and supply donations. The food drive generated 700 more pounds than last year's donations.

This week on It's Your City host Cortney Bloomer welcomes Valerie Dockery of the Carson City School District to discuss the recent partnership with Nevada Health Centers and its new health clinic that opened in conjunction with the school district.

Bundle up, Carson City, our balmy Autumn is gone. Today is going to be chilly. Warm your soul with some artwork at one of our many exhibits around town. Don’t miss the Backseat Gallery Artist Reception at Comma Coffee. The rotating exhibit changes monthly, and they celebrate the new work every first Wednesday. Happy Wednesday, Carson City. One of my favorite weekends of the year is just around the corner. Nevada Day is something special here in the capital city: the parade, beard contest, fam fest, and so much more. Parade day falls on Oct. 31 this year, and when that happens, trick or treating in Carson City gets bumped up a day to Friday. If you can’t wait that long to wear your costume, head to Carson Lanes for their Halloween Line Dance Party.
