SUNDAY: Jazz and Beyond Music Festival

Make this weekend something special. School starts up on Monday and it will be Halloween before we blink an eye. The Carl Howell Memorial Music Festival at Battle Born Harley boasts a full day of live music, vendors, activities and family fun. Bowers Mansion plays host to the annual Bluegrass Festival – bring a picnic and enjoy. Downtown Carson City will see the first of three monthly Beer Crawls; if you get there early, head over to Remedy’s to witness their yearly Bloody Mary Competition. There is something for everyone this weekend, so keep reading and find your fun.

Let's kick off the weekend with a street party, or two. The HopeFest Concert at the Carson Tahoe Medical Center is a family friendly celebration. Grab something from a food truck, enter their raffle, and get your groove on. The music doesn't stop when the sun goes down though. You've got your choice of Deception at Living the Good Life, or Mentally Spent on the Third Street Stage in McFadden Plaza. Douglas County has Summerfest in Minden Park: live music, yummy eats, and a come-as-you-are car show sure to get Carson Valley hoppin.

WASHOE VALLEY, Nev. — Logging operations are underway to clear some of the trees that were burned in the Little Valley Fire last October. Crews have been working for months to remove the thousands of dead trees the fire left in its wake.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team arrested a 24-year-old man on felony drug charges after a traffic stop for driving with a broken headlight, a Carson City sheriff’s sergeant said.

Carson City emergency units responded to a single vehicle rollover accident reported at around 6 a.m. Saturday along on Old U.S. Highway 395 adjacent to the Interstate 580 freeway and about a half mile north of the county line.

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation is hosting an Open House and demonstration of disc golf at the historic Wungnema House located in Mills Park, from 2 to 5 p.m. this Sunday, July 2.

Single lane closures will be in place on northbound Interstate 580 through Washoe Valley this Saturday and Sunday, June 24-25, as the Nevada Department of Transportation performs routine pavement monitoring and analysis.

The State Fair and Rendezvous continues at Mills Park, and now you can head into the Pavilion and get your car or bike registered for the Show and Shine. Shiny cars are also welcome at the Carson Cruise - Meet and Greet's Summer Cruise Night: start out at Bully's Sports Bar and you'll convoy down to McFadden Plaza for the Fridays at the Fox Concert Series Kick-off. A 40-year-old Carson City man was arrested Wednesday in the area of Kit Sierra Way for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery, a Carson City sheriff's deputy said.

The single lane closures currently in place on Franktown Road (State Route 877) in Washoe Valley will be removed Friday, June 9 as the Nevada Department of Transportation finalizes roadside drainage and other improvements. The lane closures will return in late summer as the road is repaved.

With a record mountain snowpack changing to a robust, above normal, significant fire potential, wildland firefighting agencies are gearing up for another fire season and the University of Nevada, Reno is ramping up its AlertTahoe HD/4K fire camera system, which overlooks and helps protect dozens of western mountain ranges and hundreds of square miles of Nevada’s Great Basin.

A Small Stream Flood Advisory for snowmelt has been issued by the National Weather Service for low lying ranch land in areas south of Carson City into Carson Valley in Douglas County, Southern Washoe County and Alpine County.

Western Nevada College is graduating one of its largest classes ever, with 551 students graduating with 592 degrees and certificates during a commencement ceremony today, Monday, May 22 at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Carson City.

Continued warming temperatures will increase snow melt this week, with the likelihood of flooding near some creeks and streams flowing out of the Sierra. The Walker River through the Mason Valley and Yerington is expected to reach major flood stage early this week, with record levels possible, according to the National Weather Service.

Dozens of Washoe Valley residents showed up to the Toiyabe Golf Club on Thursday night to learn about fire preparedness and evacuation plans, but many were surprised when a Nevada Division of Forestry official spoke publicly for the first time since the Little Valley Fire sparked.

With rising temperatures bringing snowmelt runoff from the Sierra, a Flood Watch is in effect beginning Sunday for much of the region, including Carson City, Lyon, Washoe and Douglas counties, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
