Each year, the National Pony Express Association re-creates the Pony Express of 1860-1861 by riding from St. Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento, California. Mormon Station State Historic Park is hosting this event in Genoa at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, August 26.
The national, 10-day, 24 hour-a-day event includes more than 600 riders stationed at intervals to relay a mochila (mailbag) filled with Pony Express Mail for the 1,966 mile ride.

Geiger Grade fire grows to more than 500 acres, evacuations continue

A fire burning near the border of Storey and Washoe counties in the Geiger Grade area has swelled to more than 500 acres, according to the latest report from Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
The Bain Street Fire is burning on Nevada Division of Forestry land and has not, at the time, burned any structures, the agency says.

Additional drink tickets can be purchased for $5.00 each or 3 for $12.00. Sodas will be 2 for $5.00. A Raffle will also be held, with all drawings done before the train leaves the station. It will be a "Full Moon" on the way back to the station.

VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. — Just as Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny formed a winning box office team in "Space Jam," the competition will be hot and hilarious for Pet Jam on the Comstock this weekend.
A Pet Jamboree has been added to the annual Virginia City Pet Parade.

The Pet Jam will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Silverland Arena, directly behind the Silverland Inn & Suites, the same area used for the annual Virginia City Camel Races.
