Column: The Great Bipartisan Sellout of 2010
Submitted by Kirk Caraway on Sun, 12/19/2010 - 11:30amThe liberal blogs are all in a tizzy about how President Barack Obama "caved" to Republicans, agreeing to extend the Bush tax cuts for everyone, not just those making under $250,000 a year as he said he wanted.
Some are saying that Obama has been seriously damaged by this episode, looking weak and handing the narrative and momentum to the GOP, and that he might have a tough time getting reelected in 2012.

Nugget Project: A look at the lease numbers
Submitted by Kirk Caraway on Mon, 05/17/2010 - 10:01amWhile the Carson City Board of Supervisors are on track to ante up $75,000 this week to move the Nugget Project to the next phase, I'm finding that the more I dig into the details, the more the numbers don't seem to add up.
Specifically, I'm looking into part of the project that calls for getting three state agencies to lease space in this proposed 177,000 square foot development in downtown Carson City. I use the word "proposed" in a very loose sense here, since it's likely to change once P3 Development begins the real process of feasibility planning for this project. In fact, as I am writing this, there's a new story out from Northern Nevada Business Weekly quoting the developer that the office portion would be 175,000 square feet, with an additional 50,000 square feet of retail space, to go along with the 60,000 square feet for the library/business incubator/digital media lab portion of the project.

Submarinin' at The Tea Party.
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Fri, 04/16/2010 - 10:05pmOn Tax Day it was my day off so I thought I'd go to the Tea Party in front of the Legislature to check out the scene. As a Progressive in my first Tea Party, I found it both exhiliarating and stomach turning. Despite my patchouli scented locks and my tie dyed hat, no one seemed to recognize me as "the enemy" so I browsed and schmoozed freely all over the area. Met 2 ex-coworkers there who were protesting with signs and I even got my picture taken with Govenor Gibbons! (I'll attach it here if I can.) He was real nice.

Dean Heller spins some tall tales for his hometown friends
Submitted by Kirk Caraway on Sat, 04/10/2010 - 10:22amI've always liked Dean Heller. We might disagree politically, but my interactions with him have always been friendly. He seems like a truly nice person, the opposite of the what we see in some other Nevada politicians.
But watching him this week at the NNDA breakfast reminded me that Dean's ambition is clearly more important than adherence to truth.
You see, Dean used to come off as a lot more moderate than he does today. As assemblyman and Secretary of State, he championed causes that don't exactly line up with the national GOP's ideology.
More Heller
Submitted by admin on Thu, 04/08/2010 - 3:07pmHere are some clips from Rep. Dean Heller's talk this morning. In these clips, Heller take a few liberties with the truth, such as suggesting that Barack Obama was born and raised in Chicago.
