Carson City deputies make arrests for felony domestic battery, drugs and DUI

A 23-year-old Carson City man was arrested Saturday for felony suspicion of domestic battery by strangulation and a misdemeanor violation of a suspended sentence warrant, a Carson City sheriff’s deputy said.

Firefighters from Carson City, East Fork and Central Lyon among crews sent to Ventura fire

Carson City Fire Department has sent one engine staffed with 4 personnel to the Thomas Fire burning out of control in southern California, said Carson City Fire Chief Sean Slamon. Engines from East Fork, Central Lyon County and Tahoe Douglas are among 12 regional agencies that make up three strike teams that are sending personnel to the fire.

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, you’ll see twinkling lights appearing everywhere. Carson City doesn’t light up our downtown until next Friday, but if you need an immediate fix of holiday decorations, Minden has got you covered. Candy Cane Lane at the Carson Valley Inn is a custom outdoor drive-thru Christmas light display. ‘Nevada Christmas’ is a private home on Chaparral Court, just off Stephanie Way, and puts the holly jollies into the holiday.

The Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City has set the dates for its 33rd year of Santa Train and for the second consecutive year, it will be offering special free Santa Trains exclusively for children battling cancer.

Weather Service issues Flood Watch for Carson City region due to arriving storm

Along with a High Wind Warning issued earlier, a moderate to strong atmospheric river will bring significant precipitation to the region prompting the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Watch for Carson City, Carson Valley and much of Western Nevada.

Though the level of library support varies throughout school districts in Nevada, the Carson City School District highly values school libraries as it promotes literacy through funding, a full-time library staff at each school, and certified teacher-librarians at CHS and the middle schools.

It’s that time again. The Battle Born state celebrates its admission to the United States on the last Friday of October, with the annual Nevada Day parade on Saturday. New this year is a ‘Passport to Downtown’ event on Friday. The Nevada Department of Veterans Services is pleased to announce Director Kat Miller has been selected to serve as Grand Marshal in the 2017 City of Reno Veterans Day Parade. Brigadier General Zachary Doser has been chosen to serve as Deputy Grand Marshal in the November 11th event honoring veterans and those currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
