Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the final V&T Railway train rides of the 2019 season, the 27th annual Carson City Pumpkin Patch at Seeliger Elementary School, fundraisers around town, coin press demonstrations at the Nevada State Museum, comedy at the Carson Nugget and more!

The Carson City Sheriffs Office has received a grant in the amount of $38,000 from the Nevada Department of Public Safety, Office of Traffic Safety to support law enforcement’s participation in the Joining Forces traffic safety campaigns during the coming year.

The Nevada Highway Patrol and other Nevada law enforcement agencies participating in Joining Forces will be combining resources from Oct. 18 through Nov. 4, 2019 to apprehend impaired drivers.

Members of the Carson City Host Lions Club will gather at the WalMart near East College Parkway on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12-13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day to bring awareness to the public of the sight preservation programs the Lions support, and to raise funds as part of the annual White Cane Days.

CARSON CITY — One of the deadliest and most often committed of crimes is impaired driving. It has become a serious safety epidemic in our state. Impaired drivers have consistently been the most common cause of motor vehicle crashes resulting in injuries and deaths in Nevada.

As schoolchildren across Carson City prepare to return to classes Monday, the Nevada Department of Transportation has provided a number of tips for motorists and children who will be walking and bicycling to school.

CARSON CITY — As schoolchildren across the region prepare to go back to school, the Nevada Department of Transportation is providing tips to safely bicycle and walk to school.

Tragically, there were approximately 80 pedestrian fatalities and eight bicyclist fatalities on Nevada roads last year. We hope all drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists will share the road to help our communities safely travel back to school.

The Nevada Highway Patrol and other Nevada law enforcement agencies participating in the Joining Forces program are urging pedestrians and drivers alike to be aware of each other at all times and share the road responsibly. From August 5th through 16th, the Joining Forces law enforcement team will be issuing citations to pedestrians and motorists who are violating traffic safety laws.

The Nevada Highway Patrol, Reno Police Department, and Sparks Police Department combined resources July 26 through 28, 2019, to conduct regional DUI enforcement. Over the course of two days, the multi-agency Northern Nevada DUI Strike Team patrolled in discreetly-marked ‘ghost’ vehicles during the hours of increased impaired driving rates in an effort to detect and apprehend impaired drivers.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Transportation is enhancing roadside parking restrictions on U.S. 50 south of Cave Rock. Beginning Wednesday through July 29, NDOT will install nearly 10 new “no parking” signs making un-permitted parking illegal on U.S. 50 roadside shoulders and median between Cave Rock and just south of Cave Rock State Park.

Between July 22 and August 4, 2019, Nevada’s law enforcement agencies throughout the state, including the Carson City Sheriff's Office, will be Joining Forces and citing distracted drivers.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is partnering with the California Highway Patrol’s Valley Division and Golden Gate Divisions to participate in an “I-80 Challenge.” This effort aims to reduce speeding drivers along Interstate 80 from San Francisco, Calif. to the Nevada/Utah Stateline from Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at 6:01 p.m. through Sunday, July 7, at 11:59 p.m.

Nevada law enforcement officers are joining forces to increase high-visibility patrols now through July 14, 2019, for motorists exceeding the speed limit.

From now through June 18, the Joining Forces law enforcement team will be issuing citations to both pedestrians and motorists who are violating traffic safety laws.

Nevada Highway Patrol and other Nevada law enforcement agencies participating in the Joining Forces program are making plans to keep Memorial Day weekend safe on our roads and highways by increasing patrols for impaired drivers now through June 2, 2019.

As an integral part of this year’s national Click It or Ticket seat belt campaign, Nevada Highway Patrol will be teaming up with law enforcement nationwide for a Border to Border kickoff event.

CARSON CITY — Beginning Monday, May 6, the Nevada Department of Transportation will launch multiple projects to install pedestrian traffic safety improvements in Carson City, Dayton and Gardnerville. Here's what NDOT will be working on in the coming days and weeks ahead:

Nevada’s law enforcement officers participating in the Joining Forces program will be working to keep the roads safe by watching for drivers exceeding the speed limit. This Joining Forces enforcement will take place from April 24th through May 8th, 2019.

These days, nearly everyone owns a cell phone, and they use them all day long. But among the many aspects of our job, we’re working hard to remind drivers that driving distracted by using the cell phone, riding with other vehicle passengers, eating and drinking, or even tuning the radio is a dangerous and, illegal habit.

CARSON CITY — Final construction of State Route 28 shared use path, water quality and traffic safety improvements will begin April 22 with single lane closures and short-term full road closures south of Incline Village at Lake Tahoe. Project completion is anticipated for early July and will be announced prior to opening.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office would like to inform the motoring public of a Nevada law regarding child safety seats.

NRS 484B.157 is a law that was enacted to protect children who are riding in a motor vehicle with you.

Through New Year’s Day, Northern Nevada residents can expect to see double or even triple the normal law enforcement presence. The Nevada Highway Patrol has joined forces with law enforcement agencies statewide to crack down on impaired driving, and has an important message for the public: if you’ll be drinking, designate a sober driver, and if you drive impaired, you will be arrested.

The First Judicial Court felony DUI program in Carson City has received $35,000 in grant funding for the 2018-2019 fiscal year from the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has received a grant from the Nevada Department of Public Safety Office of Traffic Safety to support law enforcement participation in Joining Forces traffic safety campaigns during the coming year.
