The first annual Fill A Trailer Kids Toy Drive is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Martin Auto Color, 2765 U.S. Highway 50 East in Carson City.

Goal of the event is to gather as many toys and children's clothing items for all ages as possible; enough to fill a 14-foot utility trailer to the top.

Unwrapped gifts would be much appreciated. Canned goods are also welcomed.

This event, hosted by J.T. and Friends, is in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys For Tots and the Ron Wood Family Resource Center.

Hello and good day Carson City. We are headed into Friday, Dec. 7, 2018. The weekend is nearly here and your continued generosity never ceases to amaze. Ahead Friday is the annual KTVN Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive held locally at the Governor's Mansion and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn. It is also the 6th annual Project Empty Bowls at Carson Mall, which has become a local soup for the soul favorite stop.

Light snow showers will continue today and and pick up tonight with less than an inch possible. As always be careful out on the roads. With winter weather having arrived, it seems only appropriate the last Friday of November is when Carson City celebrates the holiday season in a big way by ringing in the spirit of giving with the annual Silver and Snowflakes Festival of Lights.

With steady rain in the city early this morning, slushy snow in the foothills and heavy snow in the Sierra, we are on our way to winter even though it is still technically fall. It sure is beginning to look like Christmas, especially as we head into the weekend, with Friday's Silver and SnowFlakes Festival of Lights at the capitol and Saturday's downtown Holiday Crawl.

For most, waking up this morning to rain was a big relief given the fire situation over the past few months. Today is Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018. Today is known as "Giving Tuesday" an international day of charitable offering established five days after Thanksgiving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season. Have a favorite charity or nonprofit organization? Their cups are extended today and they could sure use any help you can provide, even if it's a few dollars, the equivalent of a cup of coffee.

Carson City’s favorite hockey bar, the Tap Shack, is combining with the newest tattoo shop in town, Rice Street Tattoo, on December 1 to spread holiday cheer to children in need.

A local holiday donation drive giving to Toys For Tots kicked off on Black Friday, Nov. 23 through Capitol Cab in Carson City.

Toys for Tots will be offering gifts to families in Carson City, Douglas, Storey and Lyon counties for Christmas. The hotline opens Nov. 27 and runs through Dec. 21, 2018.

Farmers Insurance District Office in Carson City is pleased to be a drop off location for Toys for Tots again this year. Stop into the office between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. with new toys, clothing, books, sporting goods, etc. We will be collecting donations through Dec. 14. Among the events and activities today include continued voting to bring the Levitt AMP concert back to Carson City this summer, a Silver and Blue Nevada rivalry blood drive, a volunteer meeting for Toys for Tots; a showing of "Casino Boss" that was filmed this summer at the Carson Nugget starring SNL Alum Jose Piscopo, a visit by Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift in Dayton, art showings and more.

Carson City's Toys for Tots 2018 holiday roundup is in need of volunteers throughout November and December. There will be a volunteer meeting, Wednesday, Nov. 14, 6 p.m. at the iStorage East facility, 3579 Highway 50 East No. 114, Carson City.

Shruti Arun, who was raised in Carson City, graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a degree in chemical engineering. However, since childhood her passion has always been to create art and after winning an entrepreneurial contest, she's decided to pursue exactly that with her new start up, "Old Soul Greetings," which also provides donations to local non-profits as a way to give back to the community.

The Nevada Department of Public Safety Capitol Police Division partnered Thursday with Toys For Tots for the annual toy donation event held at the State Capitol Building in Carson City.

The Capital Cab Company delivered more than $2,000 worth of toys Thursday to the Ron Wood Center in Carson City as a yearly contribution to Toys for Tots.

Santa comes in all shapes, sizes, and apparently, vehicles. Hop aboard the Santa Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum. It’s an out-of-this-world Alien Santa at the annual Zen Christmas at A to Zen. A cookie-loving Santa can be found at Adele’s during their annual toy drive for the Ron Wood Resource Center. If your ‘kids’ are the four-legged kind, then head over to PetSmart or Paws to Pur-fection Dog Grooming for your holiday photos. In addition to the Santa-mania, you’ll find a downtown Carson Beer Crawl, two plays at the Brewery Arts Center, and plenty of music.

Santa and his usual suspects gather for the annual Cookies with Santa, Saturday Dec. 16, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Café at Adele’s, in what has become one of the season’s most anticipated events and part of the fabric of family traditions and community.
