The Carson City area Toys for Tots program kicks off the 2023 season with hotlines open from Tuesday, Dec. 5 to Friday, Dec. 22. Families that are in need of toys are encouraged to call Toys for Tots can begin calling on these dates, daily starting at 9 a.m.

Balloon Nevada is sponsoring free hot air balloon rides to benefit Toys for Tots in Carson, Douglas, Storey and West Lyon counties.

Tethered balloon rides will take place on December 10th from 7am to 1pm (weather permitting).

Farmers Insurance District Office is pleased to once again be a drop off location for Toys for Tots. Please drop off new, unwrapped toys, books, games, sporting goods and clothing. We will be collecting donations through December 15th. For additional information call 434-0545.

Can you spare some space for local children in need? Toys for Tots has recently lost its distribution site to assist families with toys for Christmas.

On Friday, December 18, 2020, the Carson City Democrats delivered $686 to Joyce Buckingham, coordinator at Ron Wood Family Center for the Carson City Toys for Tots program.

In recognition of the fact that many families in our community, especially those with children, are struggling in this holiday period, the Carson City Democrats conducted a blazingly fast appeal to its members to support a cash drive for the Toys For Tots program.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Several fundraisers, including the annual “Share Your Christmas” Food Drive will be available throughout the Carson City, Minden and Reno areas on Friday. You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. For many local children, Toys for Tots has made all the difference in their lives when it comes to the holidays. Due to COVID-19 this year, the need will be even greater, but in order to make it happen, volunteers are needed.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include a toy and gift drive for homeless kids and teens, the 12th annual Christmas Carol Playalong for Strings at the Carson Mall, Carson City’s first-ever "Unsilent Night" at the Brewery Arts Center, a Só Sol dinner with entertainment at Sassafras, a "Pink Party" cancer center fundraiser at the Lighthouse Bar, comedian Dan St. Paul at the Carson Comedy Club and more.

The spirit of Christmas is in the air as we head into the final stretch of the work week. Thursday events around the capital city feature an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, a Carson City tradition with the return of Joyful Noise Holiday Community Show at the Brewery Arts Center and more.

Nevada state agencies participated in the Toys for Tots 2019 drive. Toys were donated at state buildings and agencies, then delivered to the State Capitol in Carson City for a final pick-up Tuesday by Santa, joined by Joyce Buckingham, Toys for Tots Executive Director for Carson City, Douglas, Storey and Lyon counties.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the KTVN Share Your Christmas Food Drive at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn, Homestead Holidays at the Silver Saddle Ranch and more. The Polar Express Train Rides are sold out for the rest of the year, but Santa Train express rides are steaming up at the Nevada State Railroad Museum over the weekend. Read on for details.

In December, Mondays don't really seem like Monday. At least for those of us caught up in the holiday spirit of giving and kindness. What a weekend of community fellowship this was among Carson City locals and we're just getting started, counting down the days until Christmas.

Activities around Carson City on Dec. 4 include a "Red Kettle" job hiring event at the Carson City Salvation Army, a Fitness Lab grand opening on Minnesota Street, a "Get Fit with Fight Camp" at Yaple's Ballroom, art showings, library activities, classes and more.

Snow days, snow way. At least that's what the weather forecast calls for Tuesday. We'll see mostly cloudy skies before another chance of rain or snow arrives midweek and then a larger storm in time for the weekend. As the saying goes of Nevada weather: Wait a minute and it will change. It is also #GivingTuesday. If you have a favorite organization, it's a good time to send a few dollars their way. Around town there's art showings, a fitness walk, hike, dance classes and an old school film favorite at the Brewery Arts Center hosted by the Carson City Classic Cinema Club.

With Thanksgiving leftovers winding down, we're winding up to the second day in December and the first day of the work week ahead, with activities lined up through the weekend. Christmas is less than a month away and many local families need help providing presents to their children.
To help fill this need, the Associated Students of Western Nevada at Western Nevada College are leading a Toys for Tots collection drive through Dec. 20.
