The Carson City area Toys for Tots program kicks off the 2023 season with hotlines open from Tuesday, Dec. 5 to Friday, Dec. 22. Families that are in need of toys are encouraged to call Toys for Tots can begin calling on these dates, daily starting at 9 a.m.

Toys for Tots kicks off another season! Toys for Tots served over 1770 children in 2021 and the demand is expected to increase in 2022. The local program serves children in Carson City, Douglas, Storey and western Lyon counties.

Toys for Tots will be serving children in Carson, Douglas, Storey and West Lyon counties this Christmas holiday season. Hotlines open Dec. 1 for signups.

Can you spare some space for local children in need? Toys for Tots has recently lost its distribution site to assist families with toys for Christmas.

It was an eventful year around the Carson City region notwithstanding the limitations caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's some notable stories that were not pandemic related that happened in 2020.

This December, dozens of Bently Nevada employees came together once more to support local families in need through the Adopt a Family Program.

Carson City-based DeBug Computer faced a Christmas challenge. Every year, the company hosts a Photos with Santa event with proceeds going to a local non-profit. The DeBug team huddled with Santa to discuss how to reach the children safely during the coronavirus pandemic. They decided to ask children, with their parents’ consent and supervision, to email a letter to Santa@debugcomputer.net.

This holiday season, The Salvation Army’s Del Oro Division, which covers Northern Nevada and Northern California, has raised $800,000 less with its iconic Red Kettle Campaign compared to last year. In 2019, the nonprofit brought in $2.4 million to support Christmas assistance and fund programs throughout the year. So far this year, The Salvation Army has brought in just over $1.6 million. With just two days left in the campaign, the nonprofit is asking those in the community who are able, to please give and support their neighbors in need.

Thin Veil Investigators, an investigative team which is based in Carson City, hosted two fundraisers for the “Do Drop In” this month. DeeDee Foremaster is the owner of this non-profit organization, first established November 17, 1998.

On Friday, December 18, 2020, the Carson City Democrats delivered $686 to Joyce Buckingham, coordinator at Ron Wood Family Center for the Carson City Toys for Tots program.

In recognition of the fact that many families in our community, especially those with children, are struggling in this holiday period, the Carson City Democrats conducted a blazingly fast appeal to its members to support a cash drive for the Toys For Tots program.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region. Several fundraisers, including the annual “Share Your Christmas” Food Drive will be available throughout the Carson City, Minden and Reno areas on Friday. You can visit the North Pole safely as part of a drive-thru Santa's Village experience at V&T Railway in Carson City, beginning Friday into the weekend. A living nativity scene will be featured at First United Methodist Church on Saturday and Sunday. Combined with train rides in Virginia City, the state capital will be buzzing with excitement. Farmers Insurance District office and the Greg Burnop Farmers Agency are designated drop off locations for Toys for Tots sponsored by U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. Please drop off new, unwrapped toys. The Carson City Democratic Central Committee is currently accepting monetary donations for Carson City Toys for Tots, which has been adversely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Carson City Seventh-day Adventist Church Pantry is looking for donations of new, unwrapped toys for children. We are looking for things like dolls, crayons/coloring books, games, toy cars, puzzles, etc. Little things make such a big difference to children whose families don't have much.

For many local children, Toys for Tots has made all the difference in their lives when it comes to the holidays. Due to COVID-19 this year, the need will be even greater, but in order to make it happen, volunteers are needed.

Two food drives are happening Thursday at two locations in Carson City. One drive is to collect Thanksgiving turkeys for families in need, and the other is a drive to help feed family pets.

Carson City Toyota will host a pet food donation drive and adoption event for the Nevada Humane Society this Thursday, Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A 39-year-old woman was arrested Friday for suspicion of felony child abuse and neglect, possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, a Carson City Sheriff's Office Special Enforcement Team report states.
