Heading into Tuesday, the capital city will celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint with events throughout the day. Other activities include a morning and evening walk hosted by Muscle Powered, a dinner fundraiser for the Roman family at Pizza Factory, a community dinner and meeting invite to the Order of Eastern Star, a showing at the BAC of the 1941 film classic "The Lady Eve" and a concert featuring the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus with violin soloist Elizabeth Pitcairn at Shepherd-Sierra Lutheran Church. Stellar violin soloist Elizabeth Pitcairn joins TOCCATA, the Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus for the 10th year, performing one of the finest and most popular gems in the concerto repertoire. Ms. Pitcairn plays Mendelssohn's beloved "Violin Concerto" on the legendary 1720 "Red Mendelssohn" Stradivarius.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of holiday events around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Silver and Snowflake Festival of Lights, the 24th annual Parade of Lights in Gardnerville, the annual Project Empty Bowls dinner held at the Carson Mall, a Holiday Crawl in downtown Carson City and much more! We bring the holidays to you, performing in Gardnerville and Genoa, as well as north and south Lake Tahoe and Reno. Everyone in Carson City is invited, always invited, to come on out and support the CHS athletic teams and programs, especially when so many of these individuals and teams have been so successful. A great many athletic events are happening this week and beyond with regional competitions in soccer, and state competitions in tennis and cross country.

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will open its 36th season on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at 4 p.m., with an “Overture of the Season” concert at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Arts Council announced Friday the awarding of more than $1 million in statewide grants to 172 recipients ranging from individual artists to nonprofit organizations and public institutions for the 2020 fiscal year.

Heading into the Independence Day holiday weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region to keep the next three days jam-packed with excitement.

The Fourth of July will be colored with parades, barbecues, carnivals, concerts and plenty of fireworks around Carson City, Carson Valley, Lake Tahoe and Virginia City.

The Tahoe Symphony Orchestra, also known as TOCCATA, helps you celebrate the Fourth of July spirit with family and friends, close to home. Our 14th annual “BOPS” concert, conducted by Maestro James Rawie, is a delightful summer event that we perform at Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville on Sunday, July 7 at 4 p.m.

The sweeping, intimate and heart-rending drama of Bach’s “St. Matthew Passion” will be presented by TOCCATA, Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, April 13-19 with performances in Gardnerville, Incline Village and Reno.

For those weary from all the snow around Carson City so far this month, about the only good news to share is that your weekend is here and there's plenty to do indoors if winter recreation isn't your thing.

From workshops to live music, a skate demo at The WheelHouse and even a special "Caturday Night Out" at the Carson Nugget to help homeless felines in the area, there are places to go around Carson City where you can keep warm, stay dry and have fun!

TOCCATA, Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus presents celebrated American violin virtuoso Elizabeth Pitcairn performing one of the 10 greatest violin concertos of all time. And more than 100 singers and instrumentalists bring you Mendelssohn’s spectacular “Elijah.” Hear the concert at Carson Valley Methodist Church in Gardnerville on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 4 p.m. Other performances Feb. 9-17 in Incline, South Lake, and Reno.

TACH (Traditional Association for Cultural Harmony), a non-profit organization founded by internationally-renowned musician Thakur Chakrapani Singh is going to present “World Music Award Night” on Dec. 16, 2018 at 4 p.m.

Come one, come all. Scheduled for Monday, Sept. 10 from 4:30 to 8 p.m., this once-a-year event takes the traditional back-to-school night to a whole new level as Carson High School opens its doors a little wider and a little longer.

Time for some Sunday holiday adventure. The Carson Nugget has something special tonight, a Van Halen Tribute Band plays two concerts in their upstairs ballroom. For a lazy afternoon in the shade, you’ll find live music on the porch of the Genoa Bar. The Tahoe Orchestra brings their annual 9/11 Memorial Concert to St. Gall’s Church in Gardnerville. Virginia City is trapped in a time loop during Civil War Days. Don’t forget to get your grub on at the annual Rib Cook-off in Sparks. Read on for more events for both Sunday and Monday.

It’s nice that the beginning of the school year is almost immediately rewarded with a three-day weekend. You’ll find annual events like Civil War Days in Virginia City and the Best in the West Rib Cook-off in Sparks, in addition to smaller happenings like the monthly Downtown Carson City Wine Walk and a roller derby double-header. Ready for a good time? The Carson City Fair runs all day and culminates with a special concert in the arena starring Journey Unlimited. Car lovers are in for a treat: you can head down to the Carson Mall for their monthly cruise night, or roll into the Max Casino to get registered for the 33rd annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The Trippin King Snakes take the stage in McFadden Plaza for a free all-ages show. Break a leg to the kids of Youth Theater Carson City; they open their production of ‘Bye, Bye, Birdie’ at the Community Center this evening.
