CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Nevada is participating in the 6th annual #GivingTuesday, a global day of online giving, on Tuesday, Nov. 28.

After taking a break during the Thanksgiving holiday, the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team resume prescribed fire operations next week, beginning Monday, Nov. 27, 2017.

Candy Cane Lane at the Carson Valley Inn is a custom outdoor drive-thru Christmas light display. ‘Nevada Christmas’ is a private home on Chaparral Court, just off Stephanie Way, and puts the holly jollies into the holiday.

CARSON CITY – The Nevada DMV is asking the public to use appointments, online services and kiosks to avoid long wait times after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

A Thanksgiving tradition in Carson City that has brought community members to the dinner table at the Carson Nugget for decades drew nearly 1,000 people for a delicious family-style meal Thursday.

A local tradition where runners and walkers of all ages work up a sweat ahead of the big Thanksgiving Day meal, the Carson City Turkey Trot brought hundreds to the Governor's Mansion on Thursday in the spirit of fitness, fun and fellowship.

The arid high desert topography of Nevada is perhaps the most unlikely image of Thanksgiving.

A very happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Because of the holiday, just about everywhere will be closed with the exception of casinos and a few grocery stores with limited hours. Earn yourself a second helping of pie by participating in the annual Turkey Trot. In Carson City, you’ll start the 5K or 8K run at the Governor’s Mansion on Mountain Street. If you’re in the Carson Valley, head to Minden Park for their inaugural 5K.

Charlie Brown once posed the question, “What if today we were just grateful for everything?” Pioneer High School students put this sentiment into action by assembling Thanksgiving dinner baskets for those in need.

Local seniors who participate in the Meals On Wheels program through the Carson City Senior Center will have handmade placemats created by local children delivered with their Thanksgiving meals.

A Carson City tradition continues Thursday as the Carson Nugget hosts its annual free Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the upstairs ballroom.

Every year, the Veterans' Administration holds a talent contest open to all U.S. Veterans. This year, a bronze medal was won by Carson City veteran David Kotzebue.

Last week, a basketball game among rivals Douglas High and Carson High inspired more comradery than animosity as it raised money for the teens injured in the Nov. 9 rollover. Tonight, an alumni hoops battle takes place to raise more money; go cheer them on, we are all winners in this game. The weather should be wonderful for this afternoon’s downtown walk with Muscle Powered. The Friends of the Carson City Library bring author J.L. Pattison to Browsers Corner for their November meet and greet.

I can’t believe Thanksgiving is this week! Is it just me, or has this year flown by? Time flies when you are having fun. But it also flies when its hectic, when there’s too much to do, and when you are distracted from your primary mission.

This Thanksgiving week will bring partly to mostly sunny skies and dry conditions for the Carson City region, according to the National Weather Service. Those traveling for the holiday can expect much of the same throughout the West with some rain in the Pacific Northwest.

The third annual Carson High School vs. Douglas High School Charity Basketball Game lit up CHS Wednesday, Nov. 15 and, as rivalry was put aside, it turned out to be the most successful basketball game fundraiser in CHS history with $10,000 raised for the seven students injured in the Nov. 9 vehicle accident on Kings Canyon Road.

With Thanksgiving just days away, the holiday season is just around the corner. The annual Holiday Craft Fair at Carson High features a plethora of handmade and locally crafted gifts for the loved ones on your shopping list. Take the plunge at the Carson Aquatic Center if you want to get a picture with Scuba Santa. Grab a coat, some friends, and your ID and head downtown for this month’s beer crawl. $15 gets you a glass and your first beer, from there you’ll pay only $1 for refills at several watering holes. A weather system that gave the Carson City region a good rain soaking and brought feet of snow to the Sierra has ended with sunny skies in the forecast through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

DAYTON – Volunteers from the Dayton Food Pantry and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department will be at Smith's Grocery in Dayton on Saturday, November 18th from 10am-4pm, working toward the goal to fill a police car completely full of nonperishable food to help Dayton area friends and neighbors.

Hello fellow anglers, the 2017 California fishing season has closed in Inyo and Mono counties for lakes and streams. Alpine County rivers and streams have also officially closed for the season. With the exception of the East Carson River that flows form Hangman's Bridge to the Nevada state line, this section is open all year with special regulations.

Pre-registration for the 2017 Carson City Turkey Trot ends Thursday night. More than 300 runners have signed up so far and the weather is forecasted for sunny skies on Thanksgiving Day.
