On Wednesday, October 17th, 2018, River Wranglers and Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space (CCPROS) partnered with Carson City's Pioneer High school to wrap cottonwoods at Riverview Park.

Last Wednesday, 34 juniors and seniors from Carson High School in Carson City took a tour of the University of Nevada, Reno campus and received their college identification cards. In partnership with the UNR, CHS offers the dual credit EDU 110 course for students interested in pursuing a teaching career.

CARSON CITY — This Monday, Sept. 10, Carson High School will open their doors a little wider and longer for a Back-to-School Night event. “Open House, Open Hearts” will be a community event focused on the following:

This 5-week class will introduce attendees to the practice of sitting, walking, and eating meditation, and teach participants how to bring mindfulness to everyday life. Core Buddhist concepts will also be explored. Some classes will include mindful movement.

Between them teachers Kathy Schwerin and Angela Sullivan have almost 100 years of meditation and yoga experience. They have been teaching one thing or another since they were children and are delighted to share the practices and benefits of mindfulness and meditation.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada State Board of Education on Thursday approved a regulation to require computer science be included in the Computer Education and Technology course required for graduation from high school.

The Carson High School senior class of 2019 arose early, not an easy task for a high school student, to celebrate the rising of the sun on this their final year of high school. A tradition that began decades ago at CHS has seniors jumping out of bed still wearing their pajamas, grabbing their blankets, and heading off to the CHS football field to arrive by 6 a.m.

Tyler Hamilton, a senior at Advanced Technologies Academy, watched a man lose his life at the Route 91 Harvest music festival.

They were both standing in the front row — a location littered with bullets after a lone gunman opened fire on the concert venue last October. Nearly a year later, the 18-year-old addressed the statewide School Safety Task Force and asked members to consider recommending that certain teachers carry weapons.

A new, yet not so new, technology policy at CHS has upset some and caused others to look at the potential benefits.

No longer are students allowed to possess their earbuds at school let alone use them during breaks or at lunch time. Accessing cell-phones during class may also result in confiscation, delivery to the office, and a call home to have the parent or guardian come and personally pick it up from the office.
