The Hop and Mae Adams Foundation will break ground on a much-anticipated, mixed-use project in Carson City’s downtown historic district on Wednesday, July 6, at 11 a.m. Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell along with Hop & Mae Adams Foundation trustees Steve Neighbors, Ed Ahrens and Chris MacKenzie, will dig the first shovels of dirt at the groundbreaking site.

CARSON CITY — Gov. Brian Sandoval late Tuesday issued a proclamation calling the Nevada Legislature into session beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday to consider a package of tax incentives to bring the startup electric car manufacturer Faraday Future to Southern Nevada.

Courtney Warner has been selected as Carson City’s new Senior Center Director. A panel consisting of Senior Center Advisory Board members, and City Staff recently conducted interviews for the position. Mrs. Warner was selected after careful review of the applicants’ work experience and education.

In business, we often hear about companies that seem to come out of nowhere to become a big success. We see it locally in companies like Bentley Systems or Click Bond. University of Nevada Cooperative Extension’s Living With Fire Program introduced The Nevada Network of Fire Adapted Communities, or The Network, through The Network’s inaugural conference Friday, Oct. 24.

There were 80 Nevadans from 10 counties in attendance representing many stakeholders in Nevada’s wildland-urban interface fire issue, including members of wildfire-prone communities; local fire service representatives; local, state and federal agencies; and landscape partners.

The Reno-area real estate market continues to rebound in the third quarter, with a 9 percent rise in sales volume and 14 percent jump in median home price, according to a Lake Tahoe-based real estate firm.

Home prices in Carson Valley were up, with a 10 percent jump in median price ($275,500) and six percent rise in average price ($315,115). Sales volume, however, was down three percent and units sold was down eight percent.

I am adamantly opposed to the 1/8 cent tax increase to fund proposed city projects. I resent the efforts of city staff to “bundle” these projects, falsely represent them as necessary, and, by omission, deceive voters as to the true costs of these efforts. While at the work shop on January 21st, no one could tell me where the tax budget shortfall was for these projects, and there was no clearly demonstrable need.

Nevada tax officials are projecting $529,000 in startup costs before the state begins to recoup money from a new tax on the sale of medical marijuana.

A bill that would allow medical marijuana dispensaries in Nevada passed the State Senate 17-4 on Wednesday. SB374, introduced in March by Sen. Tick Segerblom, would authorize and regulate medical marijuana dispensaries to serve Nevadans with medical marijuana cards.

The Northern Nevada Development Authority will hear from the state's top officers and learn of five new businesses to the region during a breakfast Wednesday, 7 a.m., at the Carson Nugget in Carson City.

As the capital of the Silver State, gambling is ingrained within Carson City’s DNA. Now, the city is making one of its boldest bets yet — turning an area known more for being the seat of Nevada politics into a viable location for startup companies.

The Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation announced that the Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Elko Boys & Girls Club (Elko, Nev.) will both receive a $10,000 start-up grant to implement Triple Play programming. Additionally, Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows (Reno, Nev.) and Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada (Carson, Nev.) will receive $5,000 Triple Play Healthy Habits grants to provide programming focused on teaching the importance of healthy eating habits and being physically active.
