The dramatic play had its first show this past weekend. It will continue this coming weekend with performances on Oct. 9, 10, 11 at 7p.m. and again at 2 p.m. on Oct. 11. Tyler has a GPA of 4.62 and has increasingly challenged himself with honors and/or AP classes every year, earning academic letters the past two years. He is currently taking four AP classes in his senior year. Talented and well-rounded, Tyler has been in Chamber Choir since freshman year. He has also been a member of the National Honor Society for the past three years and Link Crew for two years. To further develop his leadership ability, Tyler has been involved in Boy Scouts since middle school.

Many laws are in effect to protect bicyclists as they travel down the road but if you are a rider, there are some laws that apply to you as well. A cyclist is required to ride on the right side of the roadway so as to flow with traffic.
Major Sports Need Major Overhaul In Domestic Violence Policies

Pilot dies in crash at Reno Air Races

Reno Fire Dept. Chief Michael Hernandez says the plane suffered “significant structural failure to the aircraft" during the 3:30pm accident.

Volunteers remove 2,260 pounds of trash from Lake Tahoe beaches
Submitted by editor on Mon, 07/07/2014 - 2:52pmMore than 120 volunteers for the League to Save Lake Tahoe removed 2,260 pounds of trash from six of Tahoe’s most popular beaches on July 5, the day after tens of thousands of people flocked to the lake to enjoy the July 4th festivities.
The debris represented almost 10 cubic yards, or a dump truck full, of trash. It included over 3,000 cigarette butts, 1,200 cans, 800 glass and plastic bottles, and 320 plastic bags. Other cleanup projects also included a 17th annual one by K&K Services.

WNC led three Scenic West Athletic Conference softball teams, making the grade for the 2013-14 National Junior College Athletic Association’s All-Academic Teams announced on Tuesday.

Tahoe Tennis Camp Opens New Location
Submitted by Kyle Kunz on Wed, 06/25/2014 - 8:47pmThe Tahoe Tennis Academy opened up a new training ground in a more local location for all of the young rising tennis stars this past week. The camp used to be exclusively in its South Tahoe location, hence the name, but camp director Justin Clark made the decision that it was finally time to expand the horizon of the camp and open it up to more kids.
“Tennis has by far changed my life,” Clark said. “It has opened up so many opportunities that I would have never been able to experience had I not started.”
Olympic Day and Free Racing hosted June 22 by Carson City BMX

National Olympic Committees throughout the world will also participate in the international celebration, with each Olympic Committee sending Olympic Day greetings to participating nations.
Mack the Naw: Lake Tahoe and Sierra area fishing report for week of June 5

The action good and bad will be revealed in your local fishing report. The best fishing I have to tell you about though, was when I was not fishing at all. We came back late Saturday evening to make sure to be rested for the following day's event.
FootGolf on Course at Carson Valley
Submitted by editor on Wed, 06/04/2014 - 8:05pmCarson Valley Golf Course invites everyone to come out and try their hand at FootGolf, a new sport played on its own course by kicking a soccer ball into a 21-inch cup, and is being billed as “Golf with a Kick.”
The course opens at 2 p.m., and rules are similar to golf. Take your own soccer ball or rent one for $8 ($5 will be returned once the ball is returned). Rates for 18 holes of FootGolf are $18, walking; $26, riding and $9 for juniors.
WNC Baseball: Wildcats bring handful of prospects to MLB draft

With the largest pool of players under consideration for draft selection than any other major sport and ball players being scouted from a variety different levels, there is plenty of uncertainty to go around.
Even with a 40-round format, many outstanding players go unselected by a Major League Baseball team. However, a draft hasn’t gone by without at least one Western Nevada College player being selected since the Carson City baseball program formed in 2006.
BMX Race for Life is Sunday at Edmonds Sports Complex in Carson City

What is the Race For Life? It all started in 1981 when an avid 12 year old BMX racer from Michigan discovered he had Leukemia. Todd Kingsbury was his name, and like many BMXers, he had dreams of someday becoming a top pro in the sport. Unfortunately, this dreaded disease would keep Todd from fulfilling his dream.

Stud fees for an upper-echelon colt can cost $150,000 per breeding session. Even the drinks are expensive. Top-shelf mint juleps at Saturday's Kentucky Derby cost $1,000 (rainwater from the island of Tasmania, Australia, was imported for ice).

I urge every angler who has purchased a sport fishing license to also pick up a copy of the fishing regulations. The game wardens will be out checking to make sure that we all follow the regulations.
Carson City native Daria Leid named AstroTurf-KCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 04/21/2014 - 1:31pmKansas Wesleyan’s Daria Leid has been selected as the AstroTurf-KCAC Pitcher of the Week for her efforts in helping the Coyotes to a 4-0 record last week.
Leid, a senior from Carson City, Nev., went 2-0 on the week, as Wesleyan beat Friends 3-2 behind her complete game performance and beat Bethel 10-0 in a run-rule shortened game on Saturday in Newton.
Against Friends, Leid held Friends to just three hits and two runs, while striking out six as KWU beat the Falcons 3-2. Friends batted just .130 as a team in the game, well below their season average of .329.

Lucas Oil adds second off road race at Wild West Motorsports Park

The Lucas Oil Series announced that Wild West Motorsports Park will host weekend races May 30-31 in addition to the race planned for Aug. 22-23. This is the third year in a row Wild West Motorsports Park has hosted a Lucas Oil Off Road Race and the first time there has been two races in one season.
