Push America - Bike Riding to bring awareness of children with special needs, will make their annual visit to Carson City with an overnight visit with The Children's Museum of Northern Nevada in Carson City.

Come at 2pm to meet these great guys, and enjoy Storytime and Arts & Crafts along with a special Bike Clinic.

The Children's Museum is located at 813 North Carson Street, Carson City.

North Lake Tahoe celebrates holiday weekend with four days of events

Summer officially kicks off in North Lake Tahoe Memorial Day Weekend with the 6th Annual Opening Day at the Lake.
This four-day special event is Friday, May 25 to Monday, May 28, and is comprised of celebrations and festivities along the West Shore and the North Tahoe region. This event is produced by Lake Tahoe’s West Shore Association.

The following information applies to the period of March 12-18:

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee. There is one (1) opening for “Business Operator” or “Property Owner” from Redevelopment Area 2. The term shall expire in January 2014. (Refer to the attached map for Redevelopment Area 2.)

A project to complete a new north-south water transmission line on the east side of Carson City will result in activity on Fairview Drive south of Fifth Street. There will be lane closures with flagger controlled traffic. Delays are expected.

Road report for August 1-7

Saliman Road remains closed at Robinson Street due to construction of a water transmission line. Detours are marked. The road is expected to remained closed until August 21.

One lane will be closed in each direction on the Carson City Freeway between the US 50 and Fairview Drive interchanges due to maintenance.

Work will continue on a NDOT project to mill and overlay a section of US 395 from the junction with US 50 (Spooner) in Carson City to south of Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville. There will be nightly lane closures occurring from 8:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m.

The Nevada Department of Transportation will begin a project to mill and overlay a section of US 395 from the junction with US 50 (Spooner) in Carson City to south of Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville.
The following activities are expected as a result of the project, with nightly lane closures occurring from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Carson City Rendezvous celebrates Wild West history, Civil War-era living

The 28th annual Carson City Rendezvous, the area’s largest special event, returns Friday through Sunday to celebrate the wild west and Civil War era history.

The 150th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln's presidential inauguration is just one of many new events for the free three-day Civil War-era living history set at Mills Park, according to a news release issued by the Carson City Visitors Bureau.

The opening ceremony will be a special re-enactment of the inauguration of Abraham Lincoln, the nation’s 16th president, at Mills Park on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Carson City area road report for May 16-22

The following activities along Carson City roadways will take place due to utility work:

  • On Monday, May 16 through Wednesday, May 18, work is scheduled on Curry Street near the intersection with King Street. There will be single lane traffic with flagger control.
  • On Thursday, May 19, there will be single lane traffic with flagger control on Research Way south of College Parkway.

V&T Railroad ushers in spring season with special events

The 2011 season for the Virginia & Truckee Railroad is rolling down the track to opening weekend, May 27 through May 29 in Carson City, according to Convention and Visitors Bureau officials.

Before the official opening weekend, the railroad is offering a sneak peek into the historic route with a special event on Mother’s Day, Sun., May 8.

It was a stark contrast between two totally different worlds. In Carson City, we had been experiencing winter weather conditions, seemingly forever, which is typical for this time of the year: furnace running off and on, all day and all night; heavy frost on the car windows in the mornings, ominous-looking gray clouds filling the skies; cold, biting winds; snow-covered landscapes; trees without leaves; dead-looking flower gardens; having to wear winter jackets and gloves; all kinds of neighbors and friends with sniffles, coughs and colds.

Carson City Sheriff's Office receives award for 'National Night Out'

(Press release) On January 5, 2011 Carson City Sheriff’s Office received a national award for “Outstanding Citizen Participation” for the 2010 National Night Out special event hosted in August. National Night Out heightens crime and drug prevention awareness, community safety and, as in the case of Carson City, strengthens police-community partnerships. This award is the latest in the list of recognitions Carson City Sheriff’s Office received for the 2010 event including Congressional Awards from Congressman Dean Heller and a Letter of Commendation from Senator John Ensign.

Road report for Dec. 6-12

The Roop Street widening project is continuing and is expected to be completed by the end of 2010. The following impacts are expected this week:
· Roop Street is closed from William Street to Stewart Street through the completion of the project.
· Long Street will be closed from Stewart Street to Marian Street. Traffic will be detoured via Stewart Street, Corbett Street, and Molly Drive.
· Beverly Street will be closed to through traffic at Roop Street.
· Traffic crossing Roop Street may do so at Corbett Street.

Here is the Carson City road construction report for Monday, Sept. 20 through Sunday, Sept. 26. As is our weekly shout-out to our beloved and most-patient motorists, expect delays and give the road crews a brake in the slow zones.

In other words, if your gut knots up because you're running late, relax a bit. As the Robert Earl Keen song refrains, "the road goes on forever and the party never ends."

Carson City revokes catering license in aftermath of gang-related event

The Carson City Board of Supervisors revoked the catering license of Com Productions LLC, after it was used to provide alcohol at a gang-related party in August.

Sheriff Kenny Furlong made a presentation detailing an Aug. 20 incident where his deputies shut down a party held at 1700 Forrest Way put on by Com Productions' owner Robert Schmitt.

Furlong said that one wall of the warehouse — which is also owned by Schmitt — was decorated with gang graffiti, and that a known gang member had been hired by the owner to guard the back entrance to the building for the party.

As a result of the next phase of the NDOT project on the freeway, Koontz Lane will be closed between Raglan Circle and Edmonds Drive until January 2011.

There will be lane closures on Carson Street during daytime hours near the intersection of Silver Oak Drive as improvements will be made to that intersection. Minor delays are expected.

Lane closures are expected to occur on Highway 395 between Clear Creek Avenue and Clearview Drive during the night hours of 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., June 29-30, due to work on the median.

CARSON CITY — The following information was provided by the Nevada Department of Transportation and applies to the period of May 24 - 30. NDOT will work to add a third northbound lane on US 395 between Jacks Valley Road and Lupin Drive.The following activity is expected for this project:

— Work continues with single lane closures on northbound US 395 between Jacks Valley Road and Lupin Drive between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Shoulder work will continue during the daytime hours with no impacts to traffic.
