Sheriff: Body of homeless man found in Carson City may have died from the cold

UPDATE: The body of a man found this morning in the hill area behind the AM/PM at 4190 South Carson Street likely died of exposure to the cold weather, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene at around 11:25 a.m. after a caller phoned dispatch saying there was a man behind the store who wasn't moving. Foul play isn't suspected, said Furlong. A coroner and detectives were also investigating.

Snowstorm brings slick roads, wrecks, several spinouts

UPDATE: An accident was reported at 5:01 p.m. in the northbound lane of Highway 395 at Highway 50. NHP reports no serious injuries.

UPDATE: Southbound traffic at Hot Springs and Roop in Carson City is closed due to several spinouts as of 3:26 p.m. Traffic is backed up in the area, with snowplows and sanders making their way to clear the road.

An accident reported at I-580 and Eastlake is causing traffic problems extending into the Washoe Valley and old Highway 395, according to NHP. The freeway was closed briefly. Both lanes are now open as of 3:38 p.m.

Campers line up to be first at Buffalo Wild Wings grand opening

An all-ages group of nearly 200 set up camp Sunday night in front of the new Buffalo Wild Wings on South Carson Street in Carson City, each trying to be among the first 100 through the door at 11 a.m. Monday for the grand opening and chance to eat free wings for a year.

Man faces misdemeanor charges related to Thursday night gunfire outside Carson City home

A Carson City man has admitted to discharging a firearm into the air Thursday night in the 3400 block of South Carson Street. He faces two misdemeanor weapon charges.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the address at 8:45 p.m. after a report of a male shooting a firearm within a residential area.

Carson City Sheriff: Fight ends with gun shot fired into air, one arrested; victim transported via CareFlight

UPDATE: A 35-year-old man is in custody after a fight broke out Thursday night in an apartment in the 3400 block of South Carson Street. The male victim, 45, was not injured by the gunfire but was in need of medical attention, reports Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.

A medical helicopter was called and the victim transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno because of a non-gun related injury to his head. The incident was reported to dispatch at around 8:45 p.m.

Man jailed after admitting to throwing picture frame that hit victim in domestic dispute

A Carson City man was arrested Tuesday, 6:01 p.m. in the 1200 block of East Fifth Street. He faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic battery after admitting to throwing a picture frame at his partner, hitting him in the head.

Carson City authorities arrested a 27-year-old transient Monday in the 1200 block of Old Clear Creek Road. David Elden Bennett faces a felony charge of violation of probation conditions.

According to the arrest report, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the area of Spooner Junction after a report of a man standing in the road.

Carson City deputies busy with handful of weekend felony arrests

A Zephyr Cove man was arrested Sunday and faces a felony charge of third offense driving under the influence after being stopped by Carson City sheriff's patrol officers.

Christopher James Thompson, 33, was arrested in the 2500 block of South Carson Street at 2:50 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 20. Thompson was stopped for failure to maintain a single lane of traffic, the arrest report states.

Carson City man faces felony domestic battery charge

A 33-year-old Carson City man faces a felony domestic battery charge after allegedly attempting to strangle his girlfriend. Jared Allen Medejros was arrested at 6:38 p.m. Monday in the 2900 block of Menlo Drive. He is being held on $15,000 bail.

According to the arrest report, officers responded to the residence for a call of domestic violence. Officers heard a man's voice and a woman crying outside the door. Officers knocked on the door and the man answered on his knees and had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath.

Carson City road report for week of Oct. 14-20

Here is the Carson City road construction and maintenance report for the week of Oct. 14-20: On Monday, Oct. 14 and Tuesday, Oct. 15, South Carson Street will be reduced to two lanes in each direction between US Highway 50 W (Spooner Junction) and Snyder Avenue in the evening hours from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. due to continued work on the freeway project.

Proctor Street will be closed during weekdays between Carson Street and Curry Street due to utility work. Detours will be signed.

Carson City sheriff's officers make numerous drug, misdemeanor arrests over weekend

Two men were arrested Sept. 27 and face felony drug charges after Carson City Sheriff's Special Enforcement Team officers found methamphetamine in a console of a van. Both men denied the meth was theirs.

Keith Wayne Furr, 51, and William Dale French, 42, of Dayton were arrested in the 4900 block of Highway 50 East at 5:28 p.m.

Local nonprofit Ventana Sierra to host Monster Ball fundraiser

Carson City sheriff deputies make several misdemeanor arrests during weekend

A 21-year-old Carson City man faces a gross misdemeanor charge of child endangerment/abuse and misdemeanor domestic battery after he was arrested Sept. 22, in the 3000 block of Florentine Drive.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to an Airport Road address for a domestic battery. Officers report the victim, who is pregnant, and the suspect were arguing and the man pushed the victim out of the front door of the apartment. The victim told officers they were arguing because the man wanted to go to the bar rather than spend time with her, the arrest report states.

Carson City man jailed after officers find stolen laptop

A Carson City man faces a felony charge of possessing stolen property, a laptop computer, and five misdemeanors after he was arrested Sept. 14 in the 2800 block of Carmine Street.

Eduardo Reyes, 43, was jailed with bail at $27,469. According to the arrest report, officers went to the residence of the man who had a confirmed warrant out of Carson City Justice Court for obstructing and driving without a valid license.

Carson City road construction and maintenance report for week of Sept. 16-22

Here is the Carson City area road report for the week of Sept. 16-22. Due to continued construction of the Carson City Freeway project, there will be lane closures on South Carson Street between the Spooner Interchange and Snyder Avenue from 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, to 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23.

Traffic will be restricted to two lanes in each direction during daytime hours and down to one lane per direction at night.

Here is the Carson City road construction and maintenance report for the week of Sept. 9-15. On Saturday, Sept. 14, Carson Street will be closed between Musser Street and Telegraph Street from 4 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. due to a special event. Detours will be signed and traffic control will be in place.

Fight at Mills Park sends man to Carson City Jail after victim used pepper spray on him

Carson City sheriff's deputies arrested a 56-year-old transient at Mills Park on Thursday afternoon following a fight in which the man was pepper sprayed by one of the victims.

According to the arrest report, deputies responded to the park for a report of a battery. On arrival officers spoke with the 56-year-old man, described as grossly intoxicated, who stated that he was showing some kids Tae Kwon Do moves when he was pepper sprayed by an unknown male.

Carson City man wanted for felony domestic battery found hiding in attic

A 50-year-old Carson City man, who hid from authorities in an attic, was arrested Sunday and faces a felony domestic battery charge with strangulation. William Elliott was arrested in the 1500 block of Rand at 7:26 p.m.

According to the arrest report officers responded to the Rand address for a report of a man brandishing a gun and possibly domestic battery. Officers spoke with the victim who stated she walked into her home and the locks were changed.

Carson City man jailed for allegedly producing pornography involving a minor

A 28-year-old Carson City man was arrested and faces felony charges involving underage production of pornography.

Ivan Botello was arrested Aug. 30, 7:47 a.m. at a Granite Way address. Bail has been set at $100,000. The arrest was based on a confirmed warrant out of Carson City Justice Court dated Aug. 28.

The arrest warrant alleges the crimes of unlawful use of a minor in producing pornography, a category A felony and unlawful promotion of sexual performance of a minor, also a category A felony.

Here is the Carson City road construction and maintenance report for the week of Sept. 2-8. Beginning September 3, the following roads may be temporarily closed due to repaving:

Carson City authorities make felony drug, misdemeanor battery arrests over weekend

A Carson City man faces a felony drug charge and seven misdemeanor charges. Randy Paul Warstler, 29, was arrested at 1:47 a.m. early Sunday, at the intersection of Telegraph and Curry.

According to the arrest report, officers responded to the area of North Carson Street and Winnie Lane for a report of a DUI driver in a vehicle with stolen license plates.

Carson City road construction report for Aug. 26 to Sept. 1

Here is the Carson City road construction and maintenance report for the week of Aug. 26 to Sept. 1. Due to continued construction of the Carson City Freeway project the following road closures are in effect:

Roland Street is expected to close for 1 to 2 weekdays between Bigelow Drive and Ponderosa Drive for repaving.
Bigelow Drive has been permanently closed between Bennett Avenue and Roland Street and there may be periods of temporary closures between Roland Street and Appion Way.

Carson City jail inmates brought up on additional felony charges

Two inmates in the Carson City jail were booked on additional felony charges. A criminal complaint by the Nevada Attorney General's Office was filed July 31 for Jacob Centimano. It alleges battery and possession a dangerous weapon while in jail. The charges were brought to the Carson City Jail booking staff on Aug. 19.

Carson City man faces felony credit card fraud charge

A Carson City man turned himself into Carson City Sheriff's Office authorities on Monday for a felony warrant of fraudulent use of a credit card.
Jeffrey Aguisanda, 30, had a warrant for his arrest out of Carson City Justice Court issued on August 9. Bail; $3,000.

In other arrests, Angela Rebecca Bowman of Mound House was booked into Carson City Jail on Monday. She faces two felonies charges that were under warrants: Failure to appear in court and violation of probation.

Carson City Pop Warner cheer squad hosts Saturday rummage sale

Carson City road construction report for July 29 through Aug. 4

Here is the Carson City road construction and maintenance report for the week of July 29 through August 4. There will be work on the south shoulder of U.S. Highway 50 between Airport Road and Fairview Drive. No delays are expected.

Slurry seal activity will continue in the area bounded approximately by King Street to the north, Terrace Street to the south, Carson Street to the east, and Longview Way to the west. There will be temporary road closures in this area while the work is being done. Delays are expected.
