June is Fire Season

The 17th Taste of Downtown brought Carson City citizens together again, celebrating what makes the community rich in spirit despite the hard economic times. The annual event brought people of all ages and backgrounds together to celebrate and give to a temendously worthwhile and much-supported organization, Advocates to End Domestic Violence.

Carson City woman arrested after hiding meth inside motel toilet paper roll

A 39-year-old Carson City computer specialist faces felony and misdemeanor drug charges after authorities found methamphetamine and a glass pipe hidden inside the tube of a fresh roll of toilet paper at a South Carson Street motel room.

According to the arrest report, authorities were called to the Motel 6 on South Carson Street at about 2:30 this morning after reports that possible drug activity and property damage was being done inside the room.

Smoke in the valley

This afternoon, we started seeing and smelling smoke in Carson City, but so far, no one has been been able to pinpoint the source.

The Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center does not show any current fires in our area at this time. The closest fires they show are in New Mexico. Another possibility could be controlled burns in the Tahoe area. If anyone has any information on where the smoke is coming from, let us know.

Fire investigation continues at site of Carson City blaze

Carson City fire investigators have not yet determined what started a fire late this morning that nearly destroyed a building that housed a mattress supply business and a hair salon.

The investigation shows the fire began at around 11:45 this morning on the east exterior of the building, said Carson City Fire Chief Stacey Giomi. The two businesses, Mattress King and High Desert Hair, won't be able to operate anytime soon, Giomi said.

Firefighters run into hydrant issues at Carson City fire

Firefighters assigned to a structure fire at the Mattress King building on Fairview Drive in Carson City, apparently had problems with a water hydrant at the corner of Idaho and Industrial streets.

In fact witnesses watched firefighters trying to tap into the hydrant without luck as the fire raged on, growing hotter with the smoke becoming a dense black, a sign of rising temperatures within the building.

Breaking: Fire on Fairview

Firefighters are busy putting out a fire in a building housing a mattress warehouse and a beauty salon on Fairview, across from Lowe's. Here is some video shot live. We'll have more in a minute: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/5810750 A witness who lives behind the building said it appeared that the fire started in the beauty salon in the rear of the building. She also said she heard an explosion shortly after the fire started. Traffic is being rerouted around this area because of the smoke, so if you're driving around, stay away.
