This Wednesday, April 19, COVID vaccines will be available from Nevada Health Centers in Dayton and Silver Springs. Primary doses and Bivalent Boosters are available. There is no cost for the vaccines.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties holds a breakfast meeting on the second Thursday of each month at 9am in various locations in Storey and Lyon counties.

HCC’s February meeting is Thursday, Feb. 13, 9 a.m. at the Silver Springs Community Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Street, Silver Springs, Nev.

A 50-year-old Silver Springs man was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole and eight to 20 years in Nevada State Prison on three counts of first degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon, each count consecutive to the other, said Lyon County District Attorney Stephen B. Rye.

SILVER SPRINGS, Nev. — Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties’ April public meeting is on Thursday, April 11, 9 a.m. at the Silver Springs Community Center, 2945 Fort Churchill Street. This month, the two hour meeting includes a special one-hour presentation on “Domestic Violence and Coordinated Community Response.”

December 21 is the Silver Stage Food Pantry’s fifth annual “Shopping with the Elves” event. From 1-5 p.m., parents who are guests of the Food Pantry can shop for gifts for their children.

The event includes a chance for children to visit with Santa and have holiday refreshments while their parents shop. The Pantry is in need of gifts for ages infant to 18 years.

Home-bound Seniors: The Pantry also welcomes donations of gifts for seniors. They deliver baskets and gifts to 40 home-bound elders, and sing carols to them as well.

A former Silver Springs man was sentenced last month to life in prison with parole eligibility in a 2015 molestation case, according to the Lyon County District Attorney's Office.

Silver City, Nevada - On Sunday, March 19th at 2pm, Danish journalist Peter Krogh Andersen will offer a talk at the Silver City School House (385 High Street) with a slide show from his trips, followed by a question and answer session with the audience. The event, which includes light refreshments, is being hosted by the Resident Artist Program in Silver City. The public is cordially invited to attend this free event.

Silver Springs, Nevada - The featured speaker for the March 9th Healthy Communities Coalition meeting will be Pediatric Thanatologist Emilio Parga, Founder and Executive Director of Solace Tree. He will speak about creating “grief friendly schools” that are equipped to be supportive of children and teens who are dealing with loss.

The public is invited to attend the breakfast meeting, which begins at 9am at the Silver Springs Community Center.

Silver Springs, Nevada - Patty Sanborn, one of Healthy Communities Coalition’s school-based resource coordinators, is working with Big Brothers Big Sisters Northern Nevada (BBBSNN) to find mentors for children in the Silver Springs/Stagecoach region. Silver City, Nevada - The Resident Artist Program in Silver City is happy to announce that in March we’ll have a visit from journalist Peter Krogh Andersen of Denmark. Silver Springs, Nevada - There will be special holiday events and hours for Healthy Communities Coalition's Silver Stage Food Pantry, located at 3595 Ramsey Weeks Cutoff in Silver Springs. Normally, the Pantry is open Monday through Friday from 10am until 4pm. However, the Pantry will close at noon on Friday December 16th, and at noon on Monday, December 19th. The Pantry will also be closed on Tuesday, December 27th from noon to 2:30pm for a delivery.

Acting director Wendy Madson explained that the gathering will include a “celebration of Christy McGill, who was Healthy Communities’ Executive Director for more than a decade.” McGill has accepted a position in the Office for a Safe and Respectful Learning Environment at the Nevada Department of Education.
