A much welcomed blanket of snow fell over the Carson City, western Nevada and Lake Tahoe areas overnight, giving way to the first snowfall of the season and a relief for the much-needed precipitation in our parched climate.

A strong cold front will push through the Sierra and western Nevada beginning Friday that will bring gusty winds and much colder temperatures. Beginning Saturday, there is a strong chance for snow throughout the Reno, Carson City and Minden region.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a bevy of events around the Carson City region. The November Gobble Wine Walk kicks off in downtown Carson City followed by a new “Paths and Pedals” bike tour. CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Public Safety, State Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of a structure fire Monday in Churchill County where 2 people died and 1 person is in critical condition.

Cold temperatures and dry air have created ideal conditions for making snow in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Heavenly Mountain Ski Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort all plan to take advantage of this week’s cool weather window to build a solid base for the upcoming 2020-21 winter season.

CARSON CITY — With Breast Cancer Awareness Month underway, the Nevada Health Centers Mammovan is celebrating 20 years of service with screenings this week, including one in Carson City on Monday.
