Strings in the Schools concert features Carson City violinists

Young violinists join concertmaster and instructor Sue Kitts of the Carson City Symphony on Thursday to present “Strings in the Schools” at Sierra Place, 1111 W. College Parkway in Carson City. The concert begins at 10 a.m. and features students in the Carson City School District who will perform violin music. Call (775) 841-4111.

History of the Carson City Mint

Get a history of the Carson City Mint from 1870 - 1893 at this 10 a.m. presentation. The Carson City Mint produced close to $50 million in both gold and silver coins, stamped with the famous CC mint mark. Bob Nylen will also discuss the role women workers played at the mint, as well as show images of the unique and rare coins produced right here in our own hometown. Canine athlete agility show in Carson City

Judy McQuain presents her troupe of Agility Dogs, who will engage in a mad dash rhough a series of weave poles, tunnels, a-frames and teeter-totters. The dog agility sport debuted in England and is now one of the top dog sports in the world. Live acoustic music and dance

JMark Cash presents the Chihuahua Desert Duet, an acoustic duet playing rock, folk, country and traditional Mexican music. The musicians will perform at Sierra Place, 1111 West College Parkway in Carson City. The duo invite anyone stop in, shake a hand or two, kick up a little sawdust and let out a hoot. Retired State Archivist Presents 'A New Nevada Needed'

Retired Nevada State Archivist Guy Rocha is passionate about uncovering the truth. He will delight the residents of Sierra Place with his take on Nevada's economy, its growth in such areas as tourism, construction, mining and service industries.
He will lead a healthy debate on the notion we are all at a cross-road requiring leadership and planning. Guy probes, enlightens, possibly provokes, but most assuredly delights us in a lively discussion centered on Nevada. The presentation will be at Sierra Place, 1111 West College Parkway. 6:45 to 7:45 p.m.
