It's Your City: Sierra Nevada Ballet director talks about organization, upcoming Brew, Brats and Ballet

This week's edition of It's Your City with host Cortney Bloomer features Rosine Bena, the artistic director of Sierra Nevada Ballet. Celebrating the company's 15th year, the two discuss the organization, its history, the Sierra Nevada Ballet Academy and upcoming Brew, Brats and Ballet performances around the Northern Nevada region.

Senator Square: Foreign Affairs: Making a Home Away From Home

(Editor’s Note: The following story will appear in the spring edition of The Senator News, CHS’s newspaper. The story was written by staff writer Dominick DeLise, a sophomore at CHS.)

This August, two 2016 CHS graduates, and a student who finished her sophomore year, will begin another year of high school in a new country, learning a new language, and living with a different family.

Seniors MacKenzie Gilliam and Delaney Fine, and sophomore Alexa Conrad, were chosen for the Rotary exchange program. Gilliam will be going to Italy, Fine to Belgium and Conrad to Leon, France.

Have you been naughty or nice this year? You’ll have no problem finding Jolly Old St. Nick this weekend. At Debug Computers where, in exchange for a donation to Holiday with a Hero, you can get a photo with the man in red. The Santa Train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to grab a candy cane, some hot cocoa, and tell him what you’d like to find under the tree. Photographs with Santa are available at the Carson Mall Wednesday through Sunday. Genoa’s annual Breakfast with Santa has three seatings beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Sierra Nevada Ballet presents Fancifool Friday at BAC

FANCIFOOL is a brilliantly constructed piece of entertaining 21st century multi-media theatre complete with dramatic and comic dialogue, singing, dancing, mime, clown characters, vocal impressions and film.

The writing is clever as well as movingly thought provoking ranging from characters in both her speech and her physical movement. She touches the heart while simultaneously showing the humorous side of 21st century society life in New York City.

Nevada 150 events lined up through the end of October

These Nevada 150 events celebrate all things Nevada and help bring awareness to the 150th Anniversary of Statehood. The following events are held Oct. 16 through 30. This exciting new production is designed, written and choreographed by former Prima Ballerina, Rosine Bena, especially for family audiences and is complete with beautiful costumes, sets, drama, humor, fabulous music and exciting dance.

Carson City Board of Supervisors to allocate funds for special events

The Carson City Board of Supervisors will discuss this week what groups will receive money this year out of the $100,000 Redevelopment fund for special events.

There are requests for $118,275, so the supervisors will have to pick which groups will not get what they asked for at the board's next meeting on April 5 at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room at the Carson City Community Center.
