Celebrating the company's 15th year, the two discuss the organization, its history, the Sierra Nevada Ballet Academy and upcoming Brew, Brats and Ballet performances around the Northern Nevada region.

This August, two 2016 CHS graduates, and a student who finished her sophomore year, will begin another year of high school in a new country, learning a new language, and living with a different family.

Seniors MacKenzie Gilliam and Delaney Fine, and sophomore Alexa Conrad, were chosen for the Rotary exchange program. Gilliam will be going to Italy, Fine to Belgium and Conrad to Leon, France.

Have you been naughty or nice this year? You’ll have no problem finding Jolly Old St. Nick this weekend. At Debug Computers where, in exchange for a donation to Holiday with a Hero, you can get a photo with the man in red. The Santa Train at the Nevada State Railroad Museum is a good place to grab a candy cane, some hot cocoa, and tell him what you’d like to find under the tree. Photographs with Santa are available at the Carson Mall Wednesday through Sunday. Genoa’s annual Breakfast with Santa has three seatings beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The last Friday of May and Carson City is hopping. Catch some comedy at the Carson Nugget, the Sierra Nevada Ballet’s one woman show ‘Fancifool’ at the Brewery Arts Center, or some live music. The Trippin King Snakes are at Sassafras, Mo’z Motley Blues are at Living the Good Life, and Stereo Galaxy is ripping it up at Westside Pour House. FANCIFOOL is a brilliantly constructed piece of entertaining 21st century multi-media theatre complete with dramatic and comic dialogue, singing, dancing, mime, clown characters, vocal impressions and film.

The writing is clever as well as movingly thought provoking ranging from characters in both her speech and her physical movement. She touches the heart while simultaneously showing the humorous side of 21st century society life in New York City.

Bundle up, Carson City. We aren’t afraid of a little wind, are we? The Dangberg Home Historic Ranch is celebrating our infamous Washoe Zephyr this weekend with kite making, demonstrations, and more. The Friends of the Silver Saddle Ranch would love to see you at their open house on Saturday; if you’re an early riser, join them on a 7 a.m. bird walk. The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is hosting their annual Cops and Kids Open House, so head to the courthouse for some fun.

Ken Haskins and Carson City Pottery needs help getting ready for an Empty Bowls bowl making event. Dancing shoes are perfect for salsa dance lessons at El Charro’s, but you may want cowboy boots for line dance lessons at Beercade. Practice those newly learned dance moves at Living the Good Life: DJ Bobby G is featuring Latin music. Sing to your heart’s content at Jimmy G’s Cigar Bar or at the Feisty Goat Pub: it’s karaoke night.

The Sierra Nevada Ballet will present the popular “Peanutcracker – The Story in a Nut Shell” on Dec. 6 in the Bob Boldrick Theater in the Carson City Community Center at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Based on Lev Ivanov‘s original ballet “The Nutcracker,” Peanutcracker is a shorter, 45-minute narrated version that is “designed for families with younger children to introduce them to the wonderful world of ballet,” noted Rosine Bena, Artistic Director of the Sierra Nevada Ballet who wrote and choreographed this traditional holiday show.

Many celebrations are scheduled throughout the Silver State in the month of October. These Nevada 150 events celebrate all things Nevada and help bring awareness to the 150th Anniversary of Statehood. The following events are held Oct. 16 through 30. Highlights of statewide Nevada Day weekend events are forthcoming.

On Friday Oct. 17, come watch the Nevada 150 Pony Express Delivery, on the south steps of the Nevada State Capitol Building in Carson City at 3:30 p.m.

Set in 1940’s and 50’s Nevada to the music of Duke Ellington and Count Basie, Duke's Place is a brand new story in music and dance in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Nevada created especially for the Sierra Nevada Ballet and the Reno Jazz Orchestra.

This exciting new production is designed, written and choreographed by former Prima Ballerina, Rosine Bena, especially for family audiences and is complete with beautiful costumes, sets, drama, humor, fabulous music and exciting dance.

This year’s Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival comes to the Sand Harbor State Park shore July 11-August 24, with William Shakespeare’s As You Like It as the featured production of the summer.

This new version of the timeless story, Swan Lake, is filled with drama, sorcery, seduction, bravery and devotion with a strong message.

One of the most popular of all ballets, this production of the famous classic presented by the professional ballet company, Sierra Nevada Ballet, with a cast of 40, highlights the human struggle between the pure love of the soul and the seductive attraction of worldly life – all overlooking Lake Tahoe.

This eclectic event invites the audience to enjoy sausages, salads and a beverage while sampling a wide variety of innovative and exciting short new Sierra Nevada Ballet choreographic offerings ranging from classical ballet to more contemporary work.

The Sierra Nevada Ballet will present the popular “Peanutcracker – The Story in Nut Shell” on December 6 and 7 in Carson City and December 17 in Reno. Based on Lev Ivanov‘s original ballet “The Nutcracker,” Peanutcracker is a shorter, 45-minute narrated version that is “designed for families with younger children to introduce them to the wonderful world of ballet,” noted Rosine Bena, Artistic Director of the Sierra Nevada Ballet.

Sierra Nevada Ballet has selected the famed Coppelia ballet for their summer performances which are scheduled for July 27 at Nightingale Hall as part of the Artown Festival and July 29 on the outdoor stage at Sand Harbor State Park in conjunction with the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival.

Enjoy a casual atmosphere, original dance with friends, and have a glass of beer and a brat to boot at the Brewery Arts Center in Carosn City June 29.

Watch and get an inside look as the choreographers and company of dancers from the Sierra Nevada Ballet bring to the stage choreography from their upcoming season.

The Sierra Nevada Ballet takes the stage this summer to present, Giselle, which is possibly the best-loved of all the world's ballets. This profound folk tale comes to life through music, drama and over 30 professional dancers who will share this story of doomed love ... complete with jealousy, madness and vengeful ghosts. According to the ballet’s artistic director Rosine Bena, “Giselle is steeped in the tradition of ballet and conveys the poetry that makes this great production a must see this summer”.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors will discuss this week what groups will receive money this year out of the $100,000 Redevelopment fund for special events.

There are requests for $118,275, so the supervisors will have to pick which groups will not get what they asked for at the board's next meeting on April 5 at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room at the Carson City Community Center.

The Sierra Nevada Ballet will showcase Carson City District Attorney Neil Rombardo during its annual fundraiser Monday night at Sand Harbor, and the DA says he is only too happy to step up and help...

The Best of the Best of Broadway will be presented as part of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival on July 25 at 7:30 PM. This spectacular musical and dance theater medley will be performed at the Sand Harbor Warren Trepp Amphitheater on beautiful Lake Tahoe by the Sierra Nevada Ballet and musical friends.

Musical numbers from some of the all time favorite musicals such as Show Boat, Sweet Charity, Hello Dolly and more will offer “a vivid performance under the stars for all ages and musical interests”, according to Artistic
