Tuesday, Dec. 6: Things to do in Carson City

Watch ‘A Christmas Wish’ with Jimmy Durante at the monthly meeting of the Carson City Classic Cinema Club. Let the talented kids of ‘Strings in the Schools’ entertain you with their annual ‘This is Not a Christmas Concert’ Concert at the Community Center. If you need some bowl-full-of-jelly belly laughs, then the Super Santa Extravaganza, featuring some of the area’s funniest stand-up comics, is for you. You’ll find that in the Brewery Arts Center Black Box Theater. For a good dose of Christmas lights, head to the Johnson Lane area. Off Stephanie Lane, on Chaparral Court, is a spectacular display known as Nevada Christmas.

Miller and Argento have both performed cowboy poetry throughout the region for many years, and their work covers all aspects of rural life, with more than a touch of humor.

Carson City marks new era for Carson Street with ribbon cutting
Submitted by Brett Fisher on Fri, 10/28/2016 - 3:44pmAmidst March snow flakes, officials from Carson City and Q&D Construction dug their shovels into a dirt mound at the intersection of Third and Carson streets nearly eight months ago to break ground on the Downtown Corridor Improvement Project.
Glistening from rain earlier Friday morning, the finished product was unveiled in front of hundreds at a formal ribbon cutting ceremony held in front of the Nevada State Capitol, featuring many of the people who helped to break ground earlier this year.
Telegraph Street mural by Carson City artist to be unveiled Friday

“The main thing about my art is to make people feel happy — or what I call good medicine,” Sandoval said. “It’s more of a home feeling.”

Nevada Governor Sandoval declares October Careers in Construction Month

The proclamation was issued, in part, due to the work done by BuildNV, an outreach arm of the Nevada Construction Collaborative to “narrow the skills gap by guiding Nevada’s youth and displaced workers toward training and opportunities that lead to long-term, rewarding careers in construction.”
Adele's Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner to Benefit the Greenhouse Project

This is one of three fundraisers conducted each year for The Greenhouse Project, whose mission it is to continue “growing a greener and healthier community,” according to Karen Abowd, board president, who co-owns Cafe at Adele’s with her husband, Chef Charlie Abowd.

McDonald's to Host Grand Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for "Home Means Nevada" Mural

Carson St. in Carson City. The mural’s ribbon cutting ceremony will include artist Erik Burke, Carson City Supervisor, Karen Abowd, and Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell. The mural encompasses historic leaders that have impacted Nevada including: Jack Johnson, Bertha Raffetto, Abraham Curry, Sarah Winnemucca, Kit Carson, and Julia Bulette.

Carson City’s bike race named nation’s best

“This is great news for us,” said Joel Dunn, executive director of the Carson City Visitors Bureau, from the event.
