Dear Editor, It is with deep gratitude that The Greenhouse Project Board, Manager Cory King and I extend our thanks to the community for their generous support of the annual Celebrity Chef & Harvest Dinner. We were fortunate to showcase the culinary talents of Josh and Whitney Deri of Blend Catering, Reno alongside Charlie’s.

What do you need to get in the holiday spirit? Carson City probably has it covered. Watch ‘A Christmas Wish’ with Jimmy Durante at the monthly meeting of the Carson City Classic Cinema Club. Let the talented kids of ‘Strings in the Schools’ entertain you with their annual ‘This is Not a Christmas Concert’ Concert at the Community Center. If you need some bowl-full-of-jelly belly laughs, then the Super Santa Extravaganza, featuring some of the area’s funniest stand-up comics, is for you. You’ll find that in the Brewery Arts Center Black Box Theater. For a good dose of Christmas lights, head to the Johnson Lane area. Off Stephanie Lane, on Chaparral Court, is a spectacular display known as Nevada Christmas.

VIRGINIA CITY — The Dec. 9 lecture from Patrick Kealy at Gold Hill Hotel has been canceled.

Come out and enjoy some Christmas fun with Forte Award winner, Nick Josten and some of Northern Nevada’s best stand-up comics as they present a Super Santa Extravaganza.

Carson City marketer, Kathie Taylor, managing partner of In Plain Sight Marketing LLC, was awarded a Bronze Spike award from the Sierra Nevada Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America at the organization’s annual awards dinner at the Whitney Peak Ballroom in Reno Thursday evening.

Kids will enjoy the Tales and Wags program at the Library where they get to read to therapy dogs and acquire a new book in the process. Popular cowboy poets Harold Roy Miller and Tony Argento will offer a “Cowboy Poetry Duet” for the Friday Night Showcase at the Gold Hill Hotel, 1540 Main St., Gold Hill, on Friday, Nov. 18.

Miller and Argento have both performed cowboy poetry throughout the region for many years, and their work covers all aspects of rural life, with more than a touch of humor.

The Capital Ford has been serving this area for over 30 years. This upcoming Wednesday, Nov. 16 we will be serving the members of our community in a much more literal way. We here at Capital Ford will be hosting the upcoming Carson City Chamber of Commerce mixer and we would like to invite you to join us in our newly re-modeled Ford building from 5 to 7 p.m. for sparkling drinks and hors d'oeuvres.

The Carson Senators boys soccer team fell a game short of a return trip to the state tournament after being defeated in the North Regional Final by Galena, but one of the team's star players will not be hanging up his cleats any time soon.

VIRGINIA CITY — Lara Mather, Executive Director of the Historic Fourth Ward School Museum, will offer a program on the history, restoration, exhibits and archives at the museum, as part of the Gold Hill Hotel’s Friday Night Showcase at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4. The Historic Fourth Ward School Museum is a crown jewel on the Comstock.

Amidst March snow flakes, officials from Carson City and Q&D Construction dug their shovels into a dirt mound at the intersection of Third and Carson streets nearly eight months ago to break ground on the Downtown Corridor Improvement Project.

Glistening from rain earlier Friday morning, the finished product was unveiled in front of hundreds at a formal ribbon cutting ceremony held in front of the Nevada State Capitol, featuring many of the people who helped to break ground earlier this year.

Mauricio Sandoval hopes that when people see his mural on a wall on Telegraph Street, it makes them feel good.
“The main thing about my art is to make people feel happy — or what I call good medicine,” Sandoval said. “It’s more of a home feeling.”

The businesses in downtown Carson City are coming together to throw a party to celebrate the completion of the construction in the downtown corridor.

Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval issued a proclamation declaring October as Careers in Construction Month. The proclamation was issued, in part, due to the work done by BuildNV, an outreach arm of the Nevada Construction Collaborative to “narrow the skills gap by guiding Nevada’s youth and displaced workers toward training and opportunities that lead to long-term, rewarding careers in construction.”

Tickets are now on sale for the annual Celebrity Chef and Harvest Dinner, which takes place Nov. 7 at Cafe at Adele’s. This is one of three fundraisers conducted each year for The Greenhouse Project, whose mission it is to continue “growing a greener and healthier community,” according to Karen Abowd, board president, who co-owns Cafe at Adele’s with her husband, Chef Charlie Abowd.

The Mayoral and Board of Supervisor candidates take the stage at the Brewery Art Center Performance Hall for another voter’s forum; the ballot question on Gas Tax Indexing will be discussed as well.

McDonald’s restaurant is set to display their new mural “Home Means Nevada” on October 11, 2016 at 2PM at the McDonald’s, 2001 N. Carson St. in Carson City. The mural’s ribbon cutting ceremony will include artist Erik Burke, Carson City Supervisor, Karen Abowd, and Carson City Mayor Bob Crowell. The mural encompasses historic leaders that have impacted Nevada including: Jack Johnson, Bertha Raffetto, Abraham Curry, Sarah Winnemucca, Kit Carson, and Julia Bulette.

Find the perfect pumpkin at the annual Seeliger Elementary Pumpkin Patch. The long-awaited Animal Shelter has been built and is now home to adoptable pets waiting for a home: take a tour at their open house after the 10 a.m. ribbon cutting. The Carson City Off-Road was named the best mountain bike race in the nation during the Interbike International Bicycle Exposition on Thursday evening in Las Vegas.

“This is great news for us,” said Joel Dunn, executive director of the Carson City Visitors Bureau, from the event.

Sundown is a 1941 American war film directed by Henry Hathaway and starring Gene Tierney and Bruce Cabot. The film's adventure story, set against a World War II backdrop in British East Africa, was well received by critics, earning three Academy Award nominations.

Whoa doggy, what a weekend. Sixteen high school student artists from Carson, Dayton, and Douglas high schools have work in the exhibit. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Tuesday, September 13 from 5:30-7pm at the Brick. The free exhibition is available to the public from September 1 - November 29, 2016.

At Carson High School, they are appropriately named Link Crew, also known as the Boomerang Project, and they are one of the most underappreciated yet profoundly beneficial programs at CHS.
