It is finally Friday, so let’s kick off the weekend. Start the day at Dunkin Donuts on Highway 50 and you’ll be treated to some free coffee, samples, and giveaways. Kids will have a great time during Books and Brags Storytime Adventures at the Children’s Museum of Northern Nevada. The 19th annual Senior Fair at the Douglas County Community Center offers up a plethora of information, and is open to the public, no matter your age. You’ll always find a new headlining comic inside the Nugget at Carson Comedy: tonight Alex Elkin takes the stage.

Finally Friday, Carson City. January is coming to a close, and personally, I’m hoping for an early spring. Let’s enjoy the last weekend before February with some live music. Drinking with Clowns hit the Sassafras stage at 8 p.m. – get there early for dinner and a good seat. Comma Coffee can fill you up with coffee, beer, tea, and some soulful songwriting. A to Zen is open to anyone and everyone that wants an audience. Skate to your own tune at the Arlington Square Ice rink: today is the last day to glide and slide.

Frances Humphrey Lecture Series: Gold Dredges: The Land Leviathans by Rick Martin at the Nevada State Museum, 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25. The lecture is $8, free for museum members and ages 17 and under.

An in-depth presentation of the origin, operations and economics of giant land based gold dredges from the turn of the 20th century to their decline mid-century, and limited operations in the 1980-1990s.

Lyon County to celebrate National Senior Health and Fitness Day

Lyon County Human Services will join an estimated 1,000 local groups Wednesday, May 28 to celebrate the 21st Annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day.

As an official host site, Lyon County Human Services will hold a Senior Health and Fitness Day Fair at Dayton Senior Center, 320 Old Dayton Valley Road in Dayton, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be resistance exercise demonstrations throughout the day, and booths offering information, resources, and services for older adults.
